Cost of CT scan

I was wondering if anyone has had a CT for their child and if so, how much it ended up costing you.  We have United Health Care and I know everyone's plan is different, but looking for a ballpark figure so I don't have a heart attack when I get the bill.

I noticed no one has responded to you.. I don't have an answer either, but maybe you could contact United Health to pose the question? At least what percentage they'll cover and the hospital should be able to give you a reasonable answer of what they charge.

Call the hospital and get the CPT code they will use. Call UHC and they will give you the best location in your area for cost.

If I remember correctly it was $100-150 copay and we have decent insurance.  It will probably vary based on your insurance.

I deal with radiology in my position at work. It depends upon that state that you live in and the body part of the diagnostic test. It also depends if the test requires a contrast injection or can be done without. You can call a facility where you would like to have the test and they could tell you the price and insurance can likely tell you the amount that would be covered. The test will likely be several hundred dollars ($400-$500) at a minimum and then what you actually pay will depend on the specifics of your insurance plan. On a side note, personally I would want to be very sure that this type of test was definitely needed before exposing my son to radiation associated with a CT scan. If the test was 100% needed and the risks of not having the test ws great, I would certainly go ahead, but you should discuss the risks/benefits with your doctor.

We had to get one in the ER after my son hit his head and was vomiting.  They just scanned his head.
