36 week ultrasound

I went for my 36 week ultrasound today and the baby is measuring 6.13 give or take a pound per the tech. But she find mention I may have low fluid. How serious can that be? And should I be concerned? Otherwise he looked good and was even practicing breathing.

Re: 36 week ultrasound

  • Low fluid can be serious or not.  Did your doctor give you any more info?   I've seen women on here be advised to drink a ton...like more than you think is possible...for a number of days and go back and get checked again.

But I would call my doctor and ask and also ask what the fluid level was.   I mean "you may have low fluid" is very vague and I'm surprised you were told that without more info, so if I were you I'd be calling.

  • Did she measure your fluid? Typically they will measure it and want it above a certain number. Make sure you are drinking a lot of water.
  • I would want more details ASAP. I would call the doctor
  • I called my doctor and the receptionist just said he would call me but not sure when. I guess I'll start pounding back the water until I hear from my doctor.
  • I started measuring small at 36w last time. Naturally fluid levels will drop towards the end of pregnancy but doctors like to watch it because it can get too low and thus they may need to induce a little early. I was told to drink lots and lots of water, more than I was doing obviously. I maintained somewhat for a couple weeks but a week before my dd my midwives urged me to try natural at home methods of getting labor going after an ultrasound. Luckily I went into labor the next day after their advice. Often times it's not a big concern, just so long as your dr. is keeping an eye on it.

  • If it was super super low you'd be in L & D.  If it was low enough to be a concern, then my guess (hope) would be you were given some instructions as to what to do and when to do it/come back.

  • I got the call from my doctor to go right to ld.... So I'm waiting here now to find out what's going on. What's my likelihood of being induced today?
  • It depends on how low your fluid is and your Dr. I am going through the same thing only my level was 10 a week ago, and then 8 yesterday so its not too bad yet. My Dr said she would do my c-section right away if it reached 5 or lower. I think that's pretty standard. But I am almost 37 weeks so that may have something to do with it. I have heard of some Dr's just hooking the moms up to an iv and keeping them in the hospital for monitoring to see if it goes back up.

  • Depends on how low the number is.

I'd be irked it took over 2 hours to be told to go to L & D

  • Someone somewhere messed up and got a measurement of 5.2 at my original ultrasound today then when the hospital did one they for 14 so I was sent home to make an appt to see my ob tomorrow or Thursday.... How can they mess up that much? That's a huge gap! Now I'm paranoid I'm leaking fluid or something is there anyway to tell at home if I'm leaking amniotic fluid or just the typical pregnancy discharge?

My guess is they didn't measure all the pockets of fluid.
