SS and BM have been on the phone for the last hour. For part of the trip we were driving so I could hear their conversation. its funny to listen to them talk bc she makes us sound awful. What do you mean your dad wouldn't but you that 70 for mature players only video game?! Dont worry my boy! I'll get it for you. Or when he says I wont take him to the pool today I look awful, but he forgets to mention his not listening and then smart mouth that made him lose that privilege in the first place.
I didn't say anything but if you were in my situation would you or your SO add clarification to the conversation?

Agree with everyone. A judge isn't going to punish a parent for not buying a video game. And someday the kids will realize which parent bought their love, and acted like their buddy, and which parent was their PARENT and set safe boundaries.

I would do exactly this.  Well... this and add in a few extra things for him to complaint to his mother about.  You know.... "I'll give you something to complain about... !!"
