Sorry for the tmi but just wondering if anyone else experienced this...

I got very sick last night and was literally vomiting for 30 mins straight. Then it happened again this morning before I had any food in my system and I noticed that I threw up blood.

I was just figured I'd get some thoughts before I called my doctor. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it can happen just from irritation from vomiting so much...

It's likely that after being sick for so long the night before, that you could have irritated your throat and that could be the reason for the blood.

You could either wait and see if it happens again or just give your doc a quick call.

one of my best friends had this when she was pregnant with her daughter, the doctor said she had been puking so much she was tearing the lining in her esophagus, she had to be prescribed something for the nausea. I don't know if this is what is happening to you but it sounds similar. But I would definitely call the doctor and ask if there is anything they can give you, or if you can be seen to make sure it's not anything more serious

My dog was really ill last week and after throwing up all day, she threw up blood.  Please don't think I'm comparing you to a dog (I'm not!) but when we took her into the vet - the vet said "just like people, if dogs throw up enough, it can cause a slight tear in the stomach lining or in the throat which can show blood in the vomit".  So....according to my vet - dogs and humans can throw up blood because they've been sick for a period of time.

I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly.  I'd say that if you feel uncertain, call your Dr but I would likely wait (that's just me) to see if it happened again or if it was just a one off.  Feel better soon!!

Glad you asked this and glad for the PPs' responses. I vomited a couple of days ago (not for 30 minutes, probably even less than 5) and there was some blood at the end. I decided to wait to see if it happens again before seeing my doctor. Anyway, hope this was a one-time thing for both of us!
