Talk to me about Margaret

Right now, Margaret is in my/our top three for a phantom DD.

We like nicknames, but I personally don't like Maggie.

We do like Daisy and Greta.  I like Molly, but DH does not.

What other NNs have you heard of that can be used for Margaret?  Which is your favorite?

Re: Talk to me about Margaret

  • I had a grandmother Margaret. She went by many names:

    Marge
    Margie
    Greta

    us grandkids called her GG.

  • I am one of those people that don't see how Molly is a nickname for Margaret. Or Daisy for that matter. Why not just call her Margaret? Or if you are going to call her Greta, why not just name her Greta?

  • What does "phantom dd" mean?

I like Margaret but Maggie is the only nickname for it I like. If you don't like Maggie I guess there is good ol' Marge but I just hate that. I can only imagine Marge Simpson or a shipping barge. It just doesn't sound lady like.

Are Daisy, Molly, and Gretta nicknames for Margaret? I think these are all a bit of a stretch... especially Daisy.

I happen to really like the name Daisy because of personal significance but I know far too many pets named that to actually use it.

  • Oh, I forgot Meg. I like Meg the best!!

Daisy actually is a traditional nickname for Margaret. In french, Marguerite is another name for a daisy.

  • We have the same dilemma! We love Margaret, but we can't decide what nickname to use. I love Margot and Greta the most. Margot is probably my favorite.

I absolutely love Daisy, but DH vetoed it. I'd probably call her that for kicks though.

I know I don't like Peggy/Peg, Marge, or Meg at all.

  • I like Margaret. SO's mom is named that, and goes by Maggie. Not every name needs to be nicknamed, IMO.

  • I've never heard Greta used as a nn for Margaret but it makes sense. I really actually love that.

Margaret is a pretty, classic name. It has gone on and off of my list. ;)

I thought Molly was a nn for Mary not Margaret?
