Waking baby early for DC

When you went back to work did you have to wake your babies earlier to feed them and get them to daycare? I'm feeling bad about this adjustment to do to a child but there is no other choice. Was the transition ok?

  • Yes. Half the time, DS2 wakes up on his own, but the other half I wake him up so I can BF him before leaving for work. I did this with DS1 as well.

I am always greeted with a smile when I wake up DS2. Your LO's will adjust just fine. :-)

  • Yes, once I was fully ready for work I would wake DD up change her diaper and BF her.  Then she'd go straight into her carseat.  She pretty much always went back to sleep in the carseat.  I took her to my mom's house and she would often sleep for awhile after I dropped her off.  Don't feel bad, your LO's will adjust.

  • Yes.  DD sleeps until 8 (or 9!!) if left to her own devices, but when I am working she has to get up at 5:45.  We make sure she's in bed by 6:30 when I am working, but in the summer I do keep her up a bit later (7 -wow!).  Either way, my kid is a sleeper and I feel bad to wake her up, but it must be done.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • DS1 woke up at 5 or 5:30 for the first year of his life (lucky me) so I never had to wake him. But DS2 I do usually have to wake up. He wouldn't normally sleep too much longer (maybe 30-60 minutes) but I do hate having to do it, especially because all I do is nurse him and we go, basically, so I don't really get to see him in the morning. Never thought I would actually miss a kid who wakes up at 5, hah.
  • Half the time DS wakes up on his own, but some times we do have to wake him. If he is not awake, we get ourselves completely ready first before waking him. We take the bus and subway to work, so he doesn't nap on route. But if he is really sleepy, he makes up for it by taking a longer nap when he gets to daycare. It's really not a big deal for him.
  • DD is 13 months old and I wake DD up after I'm fully ready.  I wake up at 5am to get showered, dressed, lunches packed, and eat breakfast.  I wake up DD at 6:30am, most days she's already stirring.  On the weekends she'll sleep til 7 or 7:30.  I feel terrible when I have to wake her up out of deep sleep.  She's usually pretty happy when she gets up and is excited to go to daycare.
