C-sections

When to have another?

My daughter is now 3 months old, gave birth via c section. And hubby and I are wanting to have another one fairly soon, so they can grow up together and so we can be done. We were thinking about waiting till baby is 6months to a year old. It took us a year to get pregnant the first time.

Re: When to have another?

  • I'm 29, I've had 1 vaginal birth and 2 scheduled c/s.  I asked my OB and he said 12m (he won't do a VBA2C).

  • I'm 30 years old and would like to have my next one before 35 for sure. With the issues I did have, I'm not going to be able to do a VBAC.I do however want to have a csection birth plan, nothing really went according to plan which I know is normal. But the csection happened late at night she was born at 9:31pm and everyone who was there all day wanted to see her before visitation hours were finished. So I didn't get to see her as much as I wanted to, before the nurses took her to the nursery to run all the test on her. And I had what they referred to as a hot spot, and no matter how much on the epi I had I could feel a great deal.

  • I was told to wait 6 months. What did your OB advise?

I was pregnant about 1 year after my c section and had no problems with pregnancy, incision pain, or a RCS. But I would talk to your OB because while there may be general guidelines it is best for them to recommend based on how well and how fast you personally healed.
  • We are choosing to wait at least a year for many reasons. This is a question you should really ask your doctor.

  • Ask your OB for their advice. My OB also said it depends on how your ute looked/cs was the first time. I trust my OB with my life and she said 12 months between the actual deliveries would be fine for me and is what she advises most of her c/s. I ended up having a very hard pg the 2nd time around, but it was due mostly to polyhydramnios and getting huge and not to having the c/s so close. She would not do a vbac before 18 months between deliveries, but I was not a candidate regardless. This time she advised about 2 years between deliveries.

  • We also want our children close in age, however I really want a VBAC next time so I have to wait at least a year to get pregnant or that is out the window. If you aren't planning a VBAC I was told by my doctor that I needed to wait 3 months at least but at least 6 is better.

  • I was told I needed at least 18 months between deliveries.  LO is just now 9 months old so we could start trying but I'm not sure I'm ready to be pregnant again. I also don't want to risk losing my milk supply which can happen in pregnancy.
  • My OB told me to wait 6 months to a year. I'm 27 and had planned on waiting a year regardless.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.
