Bath Time?

When did your LO start enjoying bath time?  We've got one girl that tolerates it, and one that screams bloody murder every time - can't even begin to imagine what the neighbors think is going on.

Re: Bath Time?

  • They never really hated it, but they started liking it around 4ish months. Now, that they can sit up and play with bath toys, they really love it. I think the key with tiny ones is warmth. I draped warm wash cloths all over their bellies and legs when I wasn't rinsing those areas. We also have the Pandora station turned to Disney Children's and they've always enjoyed our singing and bouncing to the songs.

GL! One day, they'll think the whole process is hilarious. And, if you makes you feel better- I'm shocked my neighbors didn't call the police in those early days. Two screaming babies is quite terrifying!

E didn't like it until she was old enough to sit up in the tub. Looking back we didn't have the water warm enough. We got a temperature turtle that lights up green at the right temperatures. It'll get better soon!

  • M tolerated it for months; he never enjoyed it but didn't complain either, he would just sit there and kind of grumpy or sometimes give out a sigh.  I can't really say he enjoys it that much right now; though he concentrates very hard on kicking the ducks when he's in the tub.

  • C used to scream bloody murder as well, I would be exhausted by the end. Around 3 months she took a turn for the better. I can put her in and she will play and kick for a while before I have to soap her up. It will get better!

  • My DD loved it from the beginning.  The key I've found is making sure the water and room are warm enough.  If either is chilly she screams her head off.  On cool days, I jack the heat for half an hour before her bath so its around 75 in the house.  Then, so there's no moment of cold, I wrap her in a light receiving blanket and put her in the tub blanket and all.  I uncover her as I go, keeping the blanket wet with the warm bath water.  When the blanket is totally off because I've washed all of her, I drape a wet washcloth on her tummy while I wash her hair.  She sits there calmly and happily while its all going on and seems chipper when its over.

J has never minded bath time. We also did the above. At around three months, I stopped doing the blanket, but I still do the belly washcloth. I also fill her baby tub pretty full, so there is more water for splashing and warmth. When it was winter and she was new, I ran a space heater for 15min in the bathroom before to warm up the room!

J also really likes showers now because we take them right after swimming before we head home (she falls asleep on the way home, so I like to have the chlorine off her before I load her up). Good luck!

  • L has always loved bath time (except for the very first one at home when he screamed like crazy).  I echo everyone else with the warm water and warm room along with draping the warm washcloths.  It really relaxes him before bed and I am convinced it is what is helping him to sleep 7-8 hours at night.
