Hobbies

Hey, just wondering what everyone does as a hobby?

I feel like I need to find a new "me thing". I used to be really into road cycling before DS but I don't feel comfortable doing that anymore because I am a mom now and there is a certain amount of risk with cars hitting you etc.

Re: Hobbies

  • I like to read and I also enjoy sewing and quilting.

  • I read. I read a lot more last year than I have this year. We do a lot as a family; we have memberships to a few places. On Saturdays, DS and I go to yard sales.

  • I make hair bows. It is something I can do while she naps or after bedtime... And it feels good to be able to tell people I made her stuff when they ask where I bought it. I would love to start sewing, but I have nowhere to keep a sewing machine.

  • I read a ton.  I found a local women's book club and the women have become some of my best friends.  It's a great hobby.

My DH and I also play board games after DD goes to bed.  It's his hobby really, but it is seriously a lot of fun...he has over 100 strategy games and it brings out our competitive silliness.

The other thing that I've really gotten into is cooking.  It's nice because before DD we basically just went out all the time or got takeout...but I've gotten pretty good at it and it has saved us a ton on dinner.

Reading (book and magazines- I subscribe to 5 of them and could get lost for hours), shopping, cooking (and with that comes Pinterest, which can lose me for hours too) and photography.

Ah yes, I completely forgot about traveling!  We are going to Ireland with DD in the Fall and she's already been on a plane 17 times in her short life.

I think there should be a board for family travel.

I am a yogi and a runner. I currently take 2 classes a week (usually Bikram and aerial yoga) and am training for a half marathon this fall.

I also make jewelry and used to have an online shop before DD, but it got really time consuming. Now I just do it for fun.

  • I wish I could say I have a hobby. Right now I am working on getting our back yard situated (landscaping) and ordering new flooring. I always seem to find projects that need to be done but I wouldn't consider them hobbies. (or maybe I should?) I read sporadically, I like shopping but try not to do it too much and most recently started trying to hunt down coupons. (Not the extreme couponer...just a normal one.) Those few things plus the projects seem to keep me busy enough.

  • I used to read a lot but can't seem to get back into it. My H and I travelled a tonne before DS and have done a few trips when he was 3 and 7 months old but I feel like I need a break from that too. My new position is super stressful and I need to find something I can get lost in after work. I think I will try the book club thing and maybe start going back to yoga.

  • Scrapbooking (although I haven't as much time for it lately), and reading.  I also volunteer with the Girl Scouts.
