13 weeks and started to really fight naps

Hey mamas of cat nappers, So when did your LO begin to do the serious nap struggle? Before at least I got the 45 minutes, but now she's 30 minutes unless I hold her-even then it's still just 30 minutes. FUN. She's only up 90 minutes at the most. if I put her down earlier she just chats it up in her crib, fusses and falls asleep around 90-100 minutes. Do you think I should try LONGER awake time? Like maybe she's not tired enough? she starts having drowsy signs around a hour-75 minutes so I thought I was hitting the right time but maybe she's just bored. Who knows. I thought it was annoying before at the 45 minute but now she's not even hitting that....

Re: 13 weeks and started to really fight naps

  • Maybe it's not the length of waketime, but rather the quality of the waketime, that's the issue. What do you do with her when she's awake? Is she stimulated enough? I've definitely noticed that my baby goes down easier and stays asleep longer when he's been stimulated.

We play on the playmat, do tummy time, go for stroller walks, talk and sing to each other, go to the grocery store, etc...

  • My son is pretty much the same age and he takes a 2-3 hour nap about an hour or so after he gets up in the morning and then a couple of 1/2 to 1 hour naps later in the day.
  • My little one is almost 7 months now, but I remember trying to get him to nap back then.  I found that he slept a lot better in the swing or after a walk outdoors.  I always put him down in his crib at night, but naps were usually in the swing at that age.
  • we got 2 2 hour naps in after 2-2.5 hours of awake time. My husband said during morning nap she was out, and during the afternoon nap she woke up a little but had no problems putting herself right back to sleep. we'll keep trying this week to see if it really is she needed to be more tired out...

  • My twins definitely went through a no nap/cat nap phase around then. They fought every nap and when they did nap it was 30 min or less (and rarely at the same time). I tried everything...swing, rock and play, bouncy seat, play yard on vibrate, crib, stroller walk, wearing a baby. Each day they wanted something different. I was most successful with walks or the swing. Luckily they still went right to sleep in the crib at night. After a couple of weeks to a month, their naps regulated themselves, although they do still prefer the swing, rock and play, or play yard. It was really difficult though, the days were so long with no breaks! Good luck. Hope this passes soon!

  • We went through major nap issues at 3 1/2 months.  She use to be a 2 hour napper 2x/day then at 3 1/2 months she only would take a half hour nap maybe 45 minutes if I was lucky 2x/day.  My advice?  Just push through it.  I couldn't get anything to help but time.  She grew out of it by 5 months.  She started napping really well for me again right around the 5 month point.  I did find that not letting her cat nap in the morning between waking up and her nap did help.  Good Luck!!
