rude comments

I See You're Pregnant, So I'll Be Rude and Stupid | BlogHer

My favorite was when my father in law told me yesterday "wow, you look like you've been putting away the budweiser" Seriously? Innapropriate, rude awkward on so many levels. I said Um , no, definatly not drinking beer, the baby has to grow somewhere, that owuld be your grandson growing.  wtf

Re: rude comments

  • People are awkward and never know what to say. I've gotten the Budweiser thing too. I also got this gem from a TSA worker...quote didn't anyone ever tell you to drink light beer and say no? It actually cracked me up, that's a new one!

  • I would have just laughed and said "oh yeah, you know me! A keg every night of the week!" But, I tend to not let awkward comments get to me. Especially when I know they are joking to begin with.

  • yes, he was being really rude. I hate rude people! what is it that makes people think they have an automatic "right" to critizize your weight, body, or food just because you're pregnant? I've gotten a couple of comments myself..and I hate it. Yes, because angering the overly hormonal woman is SUCH a good idea...

Yeah, I try to make a joke about these kinds of comments too. I don't think anyone's trying to be rude, even when they actually are, they just don't know what to say. Lots of my coteachers have said things like, "Whoa, you got huge over the weekend!" and I know they're just making conversation so I try not to trip about it.
  • Wow! This is a good and sadly accurate list. I can not believe the comments that people freely make about weight to pregnant women. I am well within the normal weight gain for pregnancy and I feel like I get comments on weight all the time. IT IS NORMAL TO PUT ON WEIGHT WHEN MAKING A BABY!

But yah, the beer comment is a little off colour. Not sure what is up with that.

People are rude and I can't believe they still don't know not to say anything if they don't know how to do it appropriately.  Apparently I popped out in the last week because I got several comments on Thursday at work.  The worst was from an older guy that said, "you are getting bigger".  I wanted to slap him but played along and told myself he's too old to know better.  haha

  • I probably just would have laughed lol it's a mans way of pointing out that the baby is growing and I wouldn't take it as rude, lighten up a little. Everyone is going to comment on the baby belly since it does change like almost every week.
  • I must be the odd woman out here, but this kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I absolutely love my huge belly and enjoy when people make comments about it getting bigger. I get daily assessments from my coworkers about my belly's size, shape, etc. and I love it. The only time I think I would be sensitive to it is if they commented on my everexpanding , or about getting fat versus looking pregnant. It's more awkward for me when people don't acknowledge my belly, especially my family and inlaws. It's typically the first topic of conversation when we visit and I love to hear how much it's growing!

Same here. I would be offended by comments like "you're gonna have a hard time getting that baby weight off" or something along those lines, but I enjoy hearing that my belly is getting bigger, because it is and I love it.
  • I'm another one who really doesn't mind getting comments about my bump. I like it, actually. I'm also fairly comfortable and not self conscious of the bump since it is clearly all baby (DH even likes to comment how it looks like I've lost a ton of weight everywhere else.) So that might add to it.

I did get one really odd comment though. I had a brand new 8th grade student in my class, literally her first day at the school. The first words she says to me (in front of the whole class, no less) were in a very biting tone "Are you like, PREGNANT or something?" to which I responded calmly (although with a puzzled expression) "Yes, in fact I am. Why do you ask?" and she responded "Good! I didn't want to say something inappropriate!"  LOL So if I wasn't pregnant, you were going to loudly announce to the class that I was wicked fat? Where was this going? Sooooo awkward!

  • I must live in an alternate universe. I haven't had a single person comment on how I look or anything. That includes family and strangers. Minnesota nice, perhaps? lol

  • I have learned to meet rudeness with complete biitchiness. It was seriously hard at first but the more "you are so tiny for having twins" comments I keep getting the less and less I give a crap about how the other person is going to feel when I snap back with something.
  • I'm in the minority for sure since I actually find the beer gut comment funny. Guess I just have a mildly off-color sense of humor. I really do have the out-there belly that you can see on old men who drink too much beer. BUT, mine is much more beautiful!!
