Age you potty trained daughter

Mobile age you potty trained daughter

My daughter is 26 mo and I'm likely going to potty train her next week. Our third child is coming in about three months so I'd like to give her time to adjust before the baby is born. If for some reason she refuses to or has great difficulty, I will just wait until the early winter when she's adjusted to her baby brother.

Anyway, I've heard this is an appropriate age to PT a girl, where my son learned around 2 3/4 yrs. I don't think he was ready at 2ish.

What's been your experience with girls?

Re: Age you potty trained daughter

  • We introduced the idea with DD1 at 18 months, but didn't really start training until 26 months when she seemed much more ready. We chose to take a slower approach instead of the 3 day, etc., and she was fully day trained by 28 months, and staying dry through naps/night shortly after she turned 3.

With DD2, she started asking to sit on the potty at 16 months. We've had some "catches" and she asks to sit frequently but doesn't always go. We may try to PT her this summer shortly before she turns 2.

I started around 30 mo but DD really didn't get it till closer to 3. I let her go back to school in panties and she did OK most days. We had a REALLY bad regression when my DS was born, but fortunately she got back on track and was officially "trained" with little to no accidents and going independently around 40 mo. My DD is just busy and didn't want to stop playing to go.

  • DD decided she was ready to use the potty a couple of weeks ago.

We introduced the potty to her over a year ago and purchased panties. She gave the potty a whirl for a few days before deciding she'd rather be in diapers. Each morning we gave her the option between panties and a diaper, but she usually chose a diaper.

A couple of weeks ago she decided she wanted panties. She's been in them ever since without a single "accident". By letting her decide she quite literally "potty trained" overnight.

  • My son didn't train until after three. I tried at 2 and 2.5, but he just wasn't having it.

DD is 2...27 months...and wants to sit on the potty frequently but has never actually gone. Now that DS is done with school, I'm going to try underwear and see if she catches on.

This was the exact same with us.  We gave her what she needed, stood back and she decided that she was done with diapers at 32 months.  She's been out of diapers day and night for a month and has had only maybe 5 accidents.  Wouldn't work for all kids, but it makes a huge difference if you can let them take ownership!  I will also add that we CD, so that probably helped.

About a week after her second birthday. She had already poop trained herself; she didn't like pooping in her dipe anymore so we didn't have to deal with poo accidents.

We did a spin on the three day methods. Put her right into undies day one, pull up for nap and night, and lots of prizes/partying/praise when she went on the potty. She made progress quickly and we braved an out of the house trip on day three then the park on day four. Still had random accidents for approximately a week. She now stays dry for up to three hours and hasn't had an accident in months; she's almost 27m.

She started staying dry through her nap after a week and once she had a week straight of dry diapers during nap, we ditched the nap pull up. She'll stay in a pull up at night for a while because she's still in a crib.

  • we got her a potty around 12 months...she enjoyed going on it before bed

Officially potty trained at 21m when she was handing me diapers to change her right after she peed/pooped her diaper

  • Every kid is different. DD is 3, and isn't quite there yet.  She's PHYSICALLY ready, but seems to equate potty training with having to stop nursing ('cause they're both big girl things), though I've tried to say otherwise.  She's close to ready, and I think the next month will get us there, but it's been a long, slow process, and her cognitive developmental increases have sometimes set the potty training back.

  • We used the 3 day PT method when she was 26 months old.  Our LO #2 was 2 months old. I was on maternity leave, so I figured why not.

DD1  & 2 were both potty trained by twenty months.  DD2 used a diaper at night until 2.  We started at 18 months.

  • DD1 started telling me when she had to go potty around 27 months. DD2 started telling me right at 2 years. We didn't do a 3 day method, just started putting them on the potty when they told us. When they were mostly dry, we switched to undies.

  • DD1 starting using the potty around 20 months. I didn't start training her until after she turned 2. We pretty much had her fully potty trained when DD2 arrived and she was 2.5. She completely regressed and ended up back full time in diapers. It was so frustrating. We went through a lot when DD2 was born (heart surgery), so we just weren't able to address it at that time, and her schedule was completely thrown off. A few months before she turned 3, we told her she wasn't wearing diapers any more, and she was back potty trained within a couple of days. You can try potty train now, but don't be surprised if there is a regression after your new baby arrives. In some ways, diapers can be a lot easier when you have a new baby in the house!

DD1 was trained around 3. it was easy as pie. She was not ready before that.

I think DD2 might be ready closer to 2.5. She uses the toilet consistently now but I'm waiting until I'm home in the summer and our vacations are done. because I'm lazy, mostly.

Just after she turned 2 we did the 3 day method and it worked great for daytime. She still wears diapers for naps and sleep, naps she almost always wakes up dry, night rarely.

  • Attempted 3 day PT at 25 months because she was physically ready (staying dry for long periods of time etc). Big fail, she did not respond well to that method. After that I just ave her lots of naked time without any pressure or mention of potty. At 26 months from one day to the next (while naked) she decided she was ready to use the potty and that was it. 2 weeks later she didn't want night time diapers anymore (she had been dry most night for several weeks prior to that) and that was it for night time.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I am likely going to go ahead but am open to waiting if the timing seems too close to baby being born...three months.
  • DD kinda potty trained herself with just a little help from us right at 2 years.  I was surprised and anxious as DS was due just 2 months later but it was wonderful.
