Hi, first of all I want to thank the ladies on this board for putting together the nice FAQs section and for being so helpful to someone just starting out... making the research process that much less intimidating for me and DH.
If I am looking to start stocking up, thinking we are going to go with pre-folds and covers for our newborn (EDD first week of October), and hoping to eventually switch to AIOs and/or pockets when baby is bigger and can fit into them well. Would you just recommend buying what we need now for the NB/infant stage like prefolds, covers, snappis and the disposable inserts to put inside for meconium (?), maybe a few of the XS FuzziBunz/Kawaii just to see if they work... and waiting to get the other stuff until the baby is a little bigger? I was thinking of maybe the Jillians Drawers trial just to see what brands we like once we hit the point where we are ready to make the switch to AIOs/pockets, but that probably won't be until early 2014 when the baby is 3-4 months old. Is this a realistic way to go about it? I feel like this was most common per the FAQ recommendation.
Re: FTM thinking about initial stock
This. We had all of our dipes before baby was born. As we've transitioned into the OS dipes, we've discovered the ones we like and don't like and have the brands that have a great resale value. The dipes we love, we'll just order more. I liked having all the diapers ahead of time...just in case NB's were too tiny. They weren't, though...our LO was 5lbs13oz when we came home...so that was nice and tiny for the NB dipes. GL!
In my case I am trying to complete my stash before my babies come. I know it is a risk since I don't know what will actually work for us, but I'm in a situation where I have the income now and can afford to get all of the diapers, and will not be in the same situation later on when they are ready for OS diapers.
I think your plan is great. I think that the trial is a wonderful deal and would have used it if we were only expecting one baby.
