Babies: 9 - 12 Months

toddler formula versus cow's milk

It's widely known that 12 month olds can be given cow's milk. However is it also considered a more ideal form of nutrition than toddler formula past 1 year for some reason? (assuming breast milk isn't an option) Does anyone know of any medical guidelines/ research that has been done on this?

I have a very picky eater and I am concerned that she might not get all the nutrition she needs through food alone, if we stop giving her formula.

Re: toddler formula versus cow's milk

  • DS is still on toddler formula, but only because he has issues with WCM, soy milk, and almond milk. If I didn't have to give it, I wouldn't.

  • I started DS on cow's milk when he was 10 months old because my milk was running very low. Personally, I would rather give organic cow/goat milk rather than formula. And to be honest, cow's milk isn't even that nutritious. Sure it has calcium, but it's not well absorbed without magnesium. You should look up other ways to get vitamins, omega oils, greens....there are many ways which are better than milk & formula. You can also add greens to smoothies, if your toddler likes them.
