I was positive last pregnancy. I hated having the IV of antibiotics stuck to arm. It was an unpleasant way to find out I was allergic to penicillin! Does that mean I will be positive this time around as well?
Yikes! An allergic reaction to meds in labor is something I wouldn't want to experience.
From what I understand, Group Strep B can be present in anyone at any given time and I think the rate is about 25 of people. However, I don't think having it before increases the likelihood that you'll have it again because I guess it just passes through your system off an on? So hopefully it won't be an issue for you this time. Crossing my fingers for you!
They had just administered pitocin when my arm started burning! It felt like it was on fire. And, of course, the contractions started coming on strong at this point. good times! Lol
My friend was not positive with her first pregnancy but is positive this time around. So, who knows?? I will get tested in 2 weeks.

At my dr's office they test you each pregnancy. I am also allergic to penicillin, but I have known that since childhood. I hated the IV!They also think the reason C had an infection and was in the NICU a week was because I passed on the Group B Strep. I think my water was broken longer than I thougjt it was, just at a slow rate.
It's possible that you could test not positive this time around and not need antibiotics. Or so said my doctor when I asked about subsequent labors since I tested positive with Wes.
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.
BFP 1/18/11, EDD 10/1/11. Born at 37w5d on 9/15/11.
For some reason, at my practice, I think I remember them saying that once you test positive, they will treat you as if you are positive regardless of when the positive test occurred. (Does that make sense?)
I was positive with E. I am expecting to have IV antibiotics this time too, even if I don't test positive, because they can't wait for the test results during labor to know whether or not to administer antibiotics. They do it to be safe.
I've never heard of automatic antibiotics the second time, but I
think you could probably fight it. Read up on ways to prevent or
reverse group b strep (there are dietary and herbal things you can do, I
think) and tell your doctor you want to be tested.
Honestly, it sounds like a way for them to avoid doing a test they think will just be positive anyway. Which is fair enough, but if it's important to you to avoid the antibiotic IV, I would speak up.

This is what I thought. I was going to be tested each pregnancy, but my 2nd came before I was tested.
