Preemies

A little worried

A little background,

November 29, 2012 my water broke at work and I was only 26w 3d pregnant with my DD. My boyfriend took me to the hospital where it was confirmed and I was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville. I spent 4 days on bedrest in the hospital and on December 3, 2012 we welcomed Emmalee into the world.

Fast forward to now... Emmalee is 6 months and 6 days old. I am currently 10w 1s pregnant with LO #2. Yes I know really early and soon but we always wanted our kids close in age. As of right now the doctors have no real worries (other than yes there is a possibility of another preemie.) With DD it was unknown why my water broke.

I am going to be getting the p17 shots. Is there really anything else I can do? I freak out sometimes when I hold DD up on my stomach or when I go running. I know its nothing that is going to hurt LO but I guess I just want to be so cautious. Then again being too cautious can be a bad thing huh? Any advice would really help. Thanks

  • Congratulations on the pregnancy! I had pPROM just before 24 weeks, but held on until 26 weeks exactly. With this pregnancy, I was told that I had a really good chance of going to term with the P17 shots. I am now 36w3d. I have to say that my cervix started to shorten at 21 weeks and have been on bed rest since then (restrictions were just lifted at 36 weeks). I was also told, before the cervix shortening, that I was not to have any sexual activity, heavy lifting/pulling, and just walk on the treadmill. No running for me and I am a runner.

Granted my MFM probably sounds really conservative, but I strongly feel it is what has gotten me so far in this pregnancy, Looking back, my cervix was probably shortening with DS as well and I just didn't know it. I would definitely advocate for cervical checks every 2 weeks (I had them starting at 16 weeks). T&P that you have a happy and healthy full term pregnancy. If you are interested, there is a weekly check in on this board for moms of preemies who are pregnant again.

  • When I found out I was pregnant with twins a twin mom told me her nutritionist suggested lots of protein for strong bags, also vitamin c. My OB, chiro, and naturopath all suggest at least 100 grams of protein a day. I have to supplement with shakes because it's really hard to get that much in unless you want steak at every meal. It isn't totally impossible to get that much protein in without shakes, but being on SBR I can't get myself food ALL day long so shakes are easier for my helpers to make while they grab my regular lunch, etc. Not sure if the vitamin c will help the bags be stronger, but I figured it couldn't hurt. I realize there are MANY reasons for prom but I feel like if these might help one cause, they certainly can't hurt. I'm at 31 weeks now and am praying for 5 more weeks. Best wishes to you!
