Help getting my baby to sleep at night

Please help! My daughter is 5 weeks old and she will not fall asleep without me holding her at night. She sleeps great during the day and I can put her down and she stays asleep. At night she will not go to sleep unless I hold her and sometimes wakes up once I put her down and cries. Does anyone have any ideas that have worked!

  • Hugs!  I have the same problem!  Everyone tells me to enjoy it and to do whatever it takes for the first 3 months! I def want to be there and enjoy it but I also need sleep.  For now I hold her and then put her in the swing... she normally will sleep in the swing.  Then, it is going to be difficult to  break the sleeping in the swing but it helps me get sleep for now.

I have heard the following advice: swaddle tight, dark room, white noise machine, put a towel (or cut pool noodle) under her mattress to make it at a slight angle, wait 20 minutes after she is a sleep to put her down etc.

I just use the swing.  Good luck!

  • My DS went through that in phases. Usually around teething. But throughout his babyhood. It'll pass mama!

  • Try swaddling and white noise. I found when my first was so young I was scared of her being cold so she was actually too hot! Swaddling is awesome if baby allows it and just remember, this young it's very normal for you to have a baby in your arms all the time, we all did it! You might want to invest in a sling or carrier.
