Hey ladies, I am a lurker wishing for some advice. Please share your 6 month old ( everyone is welcomed really) feeding schedule, please!
Ok, here is my problem. I started DS around 5 1/2 mo. For a while he was having:
6 am - 6oz bottle
7:30-8am 2tbs cereal or fruit
8:30 4oz bottle before nap
12 to 12:30- 6 oz bottle
around 3pm 1/2 the 2oz jar and then 4oz
and between 6pm and 7 - 6-7 oz before bed.
first off he went from 30oz per day to around 26. I didn't intend this but it happened. My ped however said it was ok. But all of a sudden he is taking more baby food and less formula and waking up in the MOTN. I am trying to go back to a schedule similar to above so I figure maybe I need to get a better idea of what other babies are doing and try feeding solids differently. Also, part of the problem is that now he won't take the bottle before his nap. I tried increasing the size of the bottle figuring he may just want to drop a feeding for example yesterday he:
Had 7oz around 7am
then baby food around 9am before nap. Then napped till 11 am around noon had another 7oz. Took a nap at 2pm until 4:30 I offered 7oz bottle but had 4oz. Later I offered some baby food. He ate the jar but only took 4oz before his bedtime of 8pm!
Of course he woke up hungry at 3pm. I mean he is a big boy 21 lbs as of 6mo so he need more formula!I am so annoyed, I am thinking of stopping solids...as an aside, is it possible this behavior has to do with teething?
thanks in advance for your responses. I apologize for my long post
Re: FF and Solids for 6mo old
Lurker from 3-6...
Personally, I would cut back on the solids. At this point in their life, it's not intended as a source of nutrition, more just fun/teaching eating skills. It's really recommended to start with only a tablespoon and keep it there for awhile, maybe a month.
Also, it sounds like a lot of morning feedings in 2.5 hour range. For my DD (5 months 1 week and EBF) she does a 15 minute feeding at 7, and a 20 minute feeding around 9-10ish. Then she goes down for a nap at 11 for 1-1.5 hours and eats again right at wake up (maybe noon-12:30).
I would just keep offering a bottle, even if your LO is wanting solids. It's really important for their nutritional needs to keep up that formula
We are feeding DD 3 TBS oatmeal mixed with 1 TBS fruit in the morning about 2 hours after her bottle. But then her subsequent bottle she has only been taking 4 oz. She ALWAYS used to drain 8 oz. Her later bottles have been off too, so not sure I have advice but we have the same thing going on here.
She used to drink 32 oz a day. Past few days has been around 24-25.
I'm still trying to understand the whole introduction of solids personally. I understand it's not for nutrition at this point, simply to show them how to eat. But since has decreased her intake of formula so much I am getting concerned. I suppose I need to cut back on solids, even though it's just given once a day.
I read that as long as they are getting 25 oz. a day it's fine. I was also worried about him not getting enough formula since that's their main source of nutrition. My schedule is as follows:
Wake up - 6 oz. bottle
2 hours later - fruit puree
1 hour later - 6 or 7 oz. bottle (depending on how hungry he acts)
3 hours later - 6 or 7 oz. bottle
3 hours later - 6 or 7 oz. bottle
2 hours later - vegetable puree
1 hour later - 6 or 7 oz. bottle then bed
He sometimes wastes a couple ounces in his bottles and sometimes he wants more. So he is always getting different amounts of formula.
It took me a while to get on a schedule that worked for him but this one seems to be working great. In a week I'm going to start giving feeding him an additional puree. I'm making my own and my recipe book says at seven months to start feeding them 3 times a day. So I'll just add another meal in around lunch time. Hope this helps!
