Perhaps you ladies can help me:
In a nut shell I lost my job back in December - the employer continued to pay me wages that were not mine and fought my unemployment which I won twice. They over payed me 3 times - 1 of which was after I reported it to them. They also still owed me 100 hours of combined benefit time. They are now trying to say I owe them the full amount of over-payment without deducting out the benefit time. They are saying I owe them almost 3 grand when it really should be about 1300. The previous employer sent me one certified piece of mail saying I can pay them in 3 installments, however, based on my lawyers advice I have not responded or done anything. Today the employer called my house and left a message saying they are going to get the police involved if I do not contact them to resolve the issue????
I called my lawyer who basically said they must think I am really dumb and this is a civil issue so I am going to see my lawyer on Friday.
Ugh I have been dealing with this issue since January and I am due in 5 weeks -I just wish there was a simple way to resolve the issue.
Re: issue with previous employer
Why did you accept the money that wasn't yours?
I would try to resolve it instead of paying an attorney. Type a letter that itemizes the amount you think that you owe, write the check for that amount, and send it off. Hopefully that will be the end of it.
Listen to your attorney. And next time they call, give them his phone number. Its very obvious that whoever the person is at your old job that is handling this is stupid or these accounting errors would not have been made. you are not dealing with smart people.
Let the lawyer handle it and enjoy your upcoming bundle of joy!!
Thank you for the advice ladies I appreciate it. I have the money set aside so I can pay them and will make sure to do it through the lawyer as to have proof. I was unaware that once I had a lawyer I could tell them to only make contact through him so next time they call I will have ask them to stop calling me and contact the lawyer. I will see how things go when I meet with my lawyer on Friday.
this. You have money that isn't yours and you should pay it back immediately.
