When I picked up DS from preschool yesterday, he hugged me and said, "I'm so happy you're here. At rest time I had a dream you got dead." Then this morning he was hugging me extra tight and said he didn't want to go to school because he was afraid he would feel like I was dead again. I don't even know where he heard the word, "dead."
He's been extra clingy and sort of baby talking, "mama" a lot these days. Separation anxiety can come and go but I'm getting a little worried.
Have you gone through anything like this with your preschooler?
Re: scared DS - extra clingy
Ds started to cry at the thought of going to preschool in January, after having been in the same school since 2 1/2. He was fine once there, but the night before school days he'd get upset and the morning of. Turns out he says he misses us at school and there was also some social anxiety about going into the classroom and joining the kids already there. We just kept talking him through it and now he's finally stopped after a couple of months.
I think after that dream, he's probably nervous to be away from you. I'm sure with reassurance that you will there when he's done with school each day, he will get better.
