My 13 month old has two canines, and that's it! He loves fruit and I give him bananas, berries, apples slices (which he just sort of sucks on), sliced watermelon and pineapple and mango, etc. I also give him avocados, scrambled or hardboiled eggs, cheese, etc.
We still spoon feed him things too, and depending on what DH and I are eating for dinner, we'll either cut it up so he can eat it or puree it. But for his daytime meals and snacks, I feel like we're in kind of a rut when it comes to foods he can feed himself without teeth and am looking for other things to give him that I don't have to sit down and help him out with. He eats so much fruit, which I know is good for you, but I am worried about getting other nutrients into him and about the amount of sugar.
What other things do you feed your LO during the day that don't require too much chewing?
Re: Good foods for toddler without teeth?
You would be surprised what babies can eat without teeth. Have you tried things like mac and cheese, chicken, any type of steamed vegetables? Personal mini pizzas work well too. I like to put sauce and cheese on whole wheat tortillas and bake them or even use the tortillas and make quesadilla. Gerber makes a ton of mini meals which are good for a day when you may not feel like cooking.
My DS, 13 months old, has 4 teeth. He eats everything. Their gums are very strong. I give him ground beef, filet mignon, fish, chicken, pork, lamb chops, tofu, waffles, cheese, eggs, bread, pancakes, all fruit, all vegetables (baked, not steamed). They can eat anything.
I still avoid honey though.
I agree with everything above. DD has no teeth, and she eats steak (cut real small), shredded chicken/pork/turkey, tons of steamed veggies, sandwiches, pasta, even crackers like graham or goldfish.
The only things we really stay away from without teeth are things like raw carrots, where no matter how much you gum it, it's not going to get soft.
Exactly this. DD has 0/2 teeth until she was almost 1... then they starting coming in like gangbusters. She's never had a problem mashing stuff up with her gums. Like PP said, you'd be surprised how well those hard gums can smash food up.
Us too. My guy didn't get any teeth until 10 months, and he we did BLW, so he was eating whatever we ate from 6 months on.
roasted carrots, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, etc. Chicken, small pieces of steak (cut across the grain), fish, etc. Cheese.
He doesn't have to have teeth to chew most foods, unless they are really tough. Those little gums are (relatively) sharp and HARD! (DD didn't get her first two teeth until she was a year, but that didn't stop her from eating almost everything that we ate.)
