FTM with dog

We have a 7 month old boxer pup and he's only been around a baby once. He was great but I still get a bit nervous that he'll be jealous of how much attention the baby gets? Anyone else nervous about that or has anyone been though it already with previous baby? Tips?

I have a 3 year old bulldog. My husband has spoiled her. She loves kids, but I'm not sure how she'll react to mommy and daddy's baby.

We've been watching a lot of Dog Whisperer on netflix lately, as well as read a couple books.  Basically establishing boundaries from the get go and not letting your dog establish dominance over your baby is important.  Also, letting your dog know that it is still loved and gets daily attention is important.  Ultimately, some dogs will handle it better than others, and some dogs might not be able to handle it at all.  We are prepared to give our puppy away if he becomes a problem, but we are hoping for the best!

FTM with two dogs here as well. We were told to let them sniff and get used to all the baby stuff before hand. We set up the playpen, cosleeper, etc. and have let them get used to it by just walking around it, sniff it, etc. We also were told to bring something that smells like the babies we are having twins home before so they can sniff it and get used to the smell of them. Hope all this helps!

We have two dogs that were terribly behaved when we had our first. Seriously, the dogs don't even notice or care about the baby for the first few months. The only thing you have to do is supervise tummy time and push the dogs away if they get too close.

Thy will be around the baby from the time it's an unmoving lump, so their relationship evolves over time. The first few months you don't even have to worry about. 

We did no intros and didn't set up anything beforehand. Don't over think it and everything will be fine.

thanks, all : i read online to play baby crying sounds so he can get used to the sound.. ive been doing that and at first he freaked out, but he got used to it and went to sleep after a few minutes. im sure he'll be fine! :

I have a 4 year old maltese bichon mix and he does well with kids of all ages and my sisters baby.  He doesn't really like when she makes any noise but I think it's just because he's curious.  I'm pretty confident that he'll be fine.  Hopefully your pup will be fine too:)

I am a FTM with a 5 year old boxer. He is WONDERFUL around my niece and around my friends' kids. All of the times he has been around babies he has just been very curious of them but very gentle. My niece is 2 years old and our dog loves to lick her face- she thinks it's hilarious but my brother and sister-in-law think it's disgusting I am interested to see how our boxer will be with our little one. He is definitely starting to realize that something is happening because our house is slowly being taken over by baby stuff. Once our baby comes I am planning on having my husband bring a blanket or something home from the hospital so our dog can get used to the baby's smell. I am sure your boxer will be great with your baby!!

Very nervous. We have three dachshunds. The two boys are wonderful with kids and people,whereas, my female will bite any child that approaches her. I think the first few hours will be rough but she should be fine after that. She's such a relaxed, sweet loving dog with us so I'm hoping it'll be like that with the baby, given some time. My younger male, however, is very very very possessive. He will guard toys, clothing, pretty much anything, for hours on end. I know he's going to love the baby and pretty much want to guard him day and night which is going to be a huge problem. I'm going to have my husband take home a blanket so the dogs can smell it. I let them in the nursery as often as possible to check it out. I'm not sure there's much else I can do at this point.

As far as attention goes, I think the fact that we have three makes it easier. They can play with each other and are already used to sharing the attention amongst themselves. I am going to get them some nonsqueaky toys though to give them after baby gets here. Just something new to entertain them

We have a 18 month old Yellow lab. I have been trying to get her around kids more, and am impressed with how she reacts to them.

One of the best commands we have taught her is Leave It. I think that will be used a lot once the babe is here.

I also have made her a big sister blanket. We will take it to the hospital with us and have the babe in it whenever possible until we come home. MH will give the blanket to the dog prior to bringing in the babe. That way she gets used to the smell.

Oh and right now the dog sleeps in our room, and gets snuggle time in bed with us at night and in the morning. That will be kept up. We currently don't want the babe in the bed with us and I think keeping up this routine will keep Remy feeling loved.
