Swaddle weaning fail

So yesterday at DD's doc appt are pedi suggested that we start to wean DD from her swaddle and swing. She has slept great in the swing in our room swaddled since 5 weeks old. She's spent a few nights swaddled in the crib and lasted about 5 to 6 hours before we had to move her back to our room.

So tonight we tried to go cold turkey no swaddle and in the crib. Worked ok for all of 5 minutes and then it was a constant back and forth until we finally gave up and put the swaddle back on. She is still in the crib however. My question is as long as she's not rolling yet is the swaddle really that big of deal? She seems like her startle is still SO strong and she just fights sleep without that comfort. Pedi had suggested keeping her swaddled was inhibiting her ability to learn to roll so I would love to get rid of it but I would also like her to sleep!!

Re: Swaddle weaning fail

  • I let DS have one arm loose, (the same one each time.) After a couple weeks he was fussing so much, and trying to get his other arm free that I just let him and he was so successful that I believe we're done with the whole swaddle thing.

    I say go gradually.
