What teas are safe?

Awful sore throat. Want to get tea at Starbucks but it seems like every tea I put into this app i have can "stimulate contractions" and it says to avoid. Any advice?

Re: What teas are safe?

  • Any tea that doesn't have red raspberry leaf tea.  Just try hot water, honey & lemon.

I just googled the teas and there was some reason or other not to drink any of them. The only thing I'm avoiding is teas with St. John's wart. Which is in my favorite bed time tea. And I cut back on green tea because it can prevent nutrients from being absorbed, as its a diuretic.

All teas are fine (but don't overdo the caffeinated ones). They're not concentrated enough doses to cause contractions and things like that. Red Raspberry Leaf tea is good in pregnancy, just in moderation.

    So, any tea in moderation.

Ginger and lemon are good for colds. There is an awesome Throat Coat tea by traditional medicine that is magic.

    Mobile so no clicky.

Red Raspberry Leaf Likely Safe Rich in iron, this herb has helped tone the uterus, increase milk production, decrease nausea, and ease labor pains. Many of the Pregnancy Teas commonly contain red raspberry leaf to help promote uterine health during pregnancy. There is some controversy about whether this should be used throughout pregnancy or just in the second and third trimester, so many health care providers remain cautious and only recommend using it after the first trimester.
Peppermint Leaf Likely Safe Helpful in relieving nausea/morning sickness and flatulence.
Lemon Balm Likely Safe Has a calming effect and helps relieve irritability, insomnia, and anxiety.
Ginger root Possibly Safe Helps relieve nausea and vomiting.
Dandelion Insufficient Reliable Information Available Rich in Vitamin A, calcium and iron; dandelion root and leaf can also help relieve mild edema and nourish the liver.
Chamomile German Insufficient Reliable Information Available High in calcium and magnesium, also helps with sleeplessness and inflammation of joints.
Nettles Stinging Nettles Likely Unsafesee note High in vitamins A, C, K, calcium, potassium and iron. Used in many Pregnancy Teas because it is a great allaround pregnancy tonic. Note on the safety of nettles: Natural Medicines Database gives nettles a rating of Likely Unsafe, even though it is used in countless pregnancy teas and recommended by most midwives and herbalists. This may be in relation to which part of the nettles plant is used, the root or the leaves, and how much is used. According to other sources, the use of nettles is encouraged during pregnancy because of all its health benefits.2
Rose Hips Insufficient Reliable Information Available Very good source of Vitamin C and helps boost the immune system.
Alfalfa Possibly Unsafe Has Vitamin A, D, E and K; particularly good in later pregnancy to boost Vitamin K, which helps prevent postpartum hemorrhage.
Yellow Dock Possibly Unsafe Used to help treat anemia in pregnant women due to the high level of iron. Also contains Vitamins A, C and calcium. This may also be used as a laxativetalk with your health care provider about the use of yellow dock during pregnancy.
  • I drink Tazo Wild Sweet Orange from Starbucks when I am feeling under the weather. I drank it every day for 2 weeks when I was pregnant with my first to help my laryngitis. It is Caffeine free and sweet enough I didn't need to add honey or sugar.

  • I had a tea craving and made some tonight - it's been ages. It was peppermint and spearmint, but then I saw the small print with other stuff listed and my dh Googled everything. It was fine, but I had to laugh when I sat down with my tea, popped over here, and there was this post! Peppermint with honey... mmmmm.... divine!
  • My herbalist friend told me green was safe and my midwife told me as long as it is just one cup a day caffeine I would be fine. Starbucks makes most of their stuff decaf if you ask. Feel better!
  • I would pick up some Lemon Zest or any type of Lemon tea bags from the grocery store. If its too tart put some honey in it after microwaving. You dont need to worry about caffiene intake like drinking too much Black tea or coffee as long as your not drinking like a whole pot of coffee you should be fine! This is my second pregnancy and I never stayed away from caffiene and my almost one yr old daughter is healthy and happy!
