Trying to Get Pregnant

Dairy and TTC

I have a friend who is going to acupuncture to help her relax while going through IF and TTC. The lady she sees suggested she cut out diary as much as possible, particularly cheese. Have any of you heard this suggestion before? What are your thoughts about diet and TTC? I love cheese LOL. On the opposite side of the spectrum I have heard one serving of full fat diary increases fertility. So many different things about diet and TTC are out there.

Re: Dairy and TTC

  • My thoughts are that I love food.

  • The only thing I've heard lately is to stay away from soy because the plant hormones won't help with ttc.
  • I have heard that limiting the amount of dairy can be helpful, but not cutting out completely. Most of what I've read said that one full fat serving of dairy is all you need from a nutrition standpoint.

I love cheese too, but it does not love me so I try to limit the dairy I eat anyway. I think this kind of thing comes down to a personal choice.

  • My PCP yelled at me because I cut out dairy and how low vitamin D. If you cut out dairy make sure you are taking D supplements. My PCPs feelings are that if you're not lactose intolerant you should keep eating cheese and drinking milk.

There are no human studies that have shown a correlation between consumption of soy isoflavones and infertility. In the animal studies that have been performed, the lab animals were fed large amounts of soy. Here is a magazine article that outlines some of the science:

  • Yes, I've heard of it.

The relation I've seen is being studied with a link to endometriosis. Within this thought is that gluten, wheat, dairy, caffeine and other inflammatory foods can cause or worsen Endo.

I don't have the link in front of me but there's a study going on at Vanderbilt, as well as many theories that a gluten free diet helps Endo.

I'm not changing my diet to get KU. People get KU every day because they had welltimed sex. That's the method I'm using.

When I got to the stage of IF treatment, I realized that I would do just about anything to improve my odds, which includes adjusting my diet.

I figured I was paying enough for meds that I could eat what I wanted because they would override it.

True, but I'm referring to Endo, just because that's what I'm personally dealing with. And the only drug that prohibits Endo from growing back is birth control.

Dealing with Endo is dealing with a ticking clock. It grows back and if a change in diet can slow that, then I don't mind changing my diet. No shot or pill that helps with IF prevents Endo. It's kindof a losing battle. If I keep TTC, then I risk it growing back. If I take BC, then I have to stop TTC.

I'm fully aware of what endo is.

    It was a joke. Breathe.

Dammmm internets and it's stupid ill concieved tone.

I wasn't implying that you didn't know. As a former SAIF, I know you are aware.

My post was more to prevent newbs and wannabe IFers from thinking there was a IF drug for Endo.

I'm breathing. And drinking. My bad for seeming snippy.

I read about that as well. I've altered my diet a bit since doing the 9 months of Lupron. I'll try many things to slow it growing back.

That being said, I ate a mess of blue cheese with dinner. I'm not about the extremes with eating.

  • Calcium deficiencies and earlyonset osteoporosis run in my family bigtime, and I can't take the calcium supplements because they make me nauseated, so cutting out dairy Iis not an option for me. In fact, my doctor has me eating three fullfat dairy servings a day, because at 25 I'm 26 now my calcium levels were dangerously low.

But I know that Eastern medicine has different ideas about how minerals and vitamins effects things.

ETA: mobile ate my symbols. Sorry!

I would never give up dairy. I mean, unless I became lactose intolerant or if I was breastfeeding and the baby had an allergy. I go through a gallon and a half of skim milk a week just by myself. Cheese is proof Jebus loves us.

As you probably know, the cause of Endo is unknown and still being studied. I'm just throwing this out there for newbs and those who are unaware.

The theories of its cause surround environmental, hereditary and the foods we eat. There are some women who swear that changing their diet has helped with the symptoms. I'm sure there are others who say that it didn't help them at all. Unfortunately, the cause of the disease and the reason it can worsen is still unknown and being studied.
