Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

how to get baby off formula?

My daughter just turned a year on Wednesday, and for the past few months she has refused to eat anything but her bottle. If I sit her in her high chair she just throws everything on the floor and wont open her mouth at all! So if anyone has had the same problem please let me know what worked for you! I'm scared to just stop giving her formula completely because I don't want her to lose too much weight or anything. Any suggestions are appreciated! :)

  • She hasn't eaten any solids at all in months? I'd call your pediatrician.

  • My lo was very slow to take to solids as well. We kept her on formula a few extra months and then went to 1/2 and 1/2. She is now eating great. She just needed a bit more time. As long as your pedi is ok with it just take things slow. We found she loved puffs and yogurt. If you can find something she likes offer it every meal with other new foods. That was what worked for us. 13 months seemed to be when she finally started to eat solids.
  • If she's not eating anything, I suggest offering her something you know she'll eat, even if it's purees.  I'm no pediatrician, but by a year old, she probably needs more nutrients than formula alone.  You can ease her into other foods once you get her eating.  I wouldn't take out formula though until you get her to take some solids.

I second the opinion of talking to your pediatrician though.
