Working Moms

Your first time..

I'm not due until November.. And only get 6 weeks off..And the only thing I can think about is leaving my baby with the babysitter sad face. But I can't take anymore time off, I'm only getting paid for 2 weeks anyway. Just curious how you ladies handled it..

Re: Your first time..

  • It was hard, but it got easier every day.

I like my job and my co-workers (for the most partWink) so that made things easier.  I thought I was going to be a tearful mess, but I actually was fine.

I know you said you don't have any time left, but if there is anyway you could ease back into working FT, I would suggest doing that (like possibly working from home one day per week for the first month, or something similar).

Sigh. I wish I could work from home a couple days but I work at a preschool so no option for that. My mom said "yes it will be hard but seeing your baby recognize your voice and face once you come pick them up is one of the best feelings". The ladies I work with in the classroom are really supportive so maybe that will make it easier
  • Honestly, the first was the easiest for me.  I have had progressively longer leaves with my three.  I will say after a year or so it just is what it is - I no longer feel that sad pang so much with drop off, pick up, etc.

  • I got a bit longer leave, but going back wasn't as hard as I had expected!  I did get to leave him with DH the first day back though, so that might have helped.  He only went to daycare a few days a week and DH the other days for awhile.  Then full time daycare.  I was happy to be back at work and as long as I kept busy, I didn't really miss him all that much.  The second kid I think will be much, much harder on me for some reason.  I'm already trying to think of ways to stay home! :)  I know he's my last and my principal is not supportive of me pumping during the day, so I'm already annoyed at returning. It's not as bad as it seems though.  You'll be amazed at how quickly you both adjust.
