TTC after 35

infertility sucks.

I thought I had pretty much emotionally prepared myself that my IUI potentially might not have worked.  And I worked up a list in my head of all of the silver linings to not being pregnant.

1.  No more progesterone suppositories.  My least favorite thing, ever.  The junk that comes out throughout the day, and the junk that comes out during sex is terrible.

2.  A martini.

I don't know why but I was pretty much shocked when the nurse called to say that my test was negative.  How is it possible that 70.2 million sperm couldn't fertilize my apparently crappy eggs?  I didn't think I'd cry, and I really did think that I was prepared for the "I'm sorry, but..."

Not so much.  Sure those silver linings are great... but not exactly what I really wanted in the grand scheme of things.

 I'm blue.  :(

  • I am sorry - every BFN sucks, even when you try to rationalize it beforehand.  As the PP wrote, you have the right to be blue.

  • I totally agree with you! No matter how you prepare for the "Im sorry" or the bfn, is a blow because I think we mentally prepare for bad news but emotionally we hold on to hope, its the only way to do this....heck I just had the heaviest 7 day AF ever after a failed injectibles IUI, but I was feeling queasy so I tested "just in case". If sucks and messes with your mind. Truly sorry you had bfn, go have a martini

  • Totally agree!  We had 3 failed IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and  just had my 3rd IVF transfer and we find out Friday.  I'm planning a silver lining trip to the beach next weekend just in case.  If we're preggo I'll lay my bloated belly on the beach happily, if not I'll pull on a really loose sundress and have an orange crush or 3!
  • drink your martini and have a good cry.                                                                 will you be doing another IUI,  if so you should focus on that.

i wish you good luck and FX is you have another go at it.

  • Sorry : I agree you never can prepare yourself into not feeling bummed when it comes to a bfn. And it feels worse hearing from someone else than staring at the stark white stick by yourself IMO.

  • I'm sorry it didn't work but try not to feel too bad about it. IUI only works 5 to 20 of the time depending on if you take fertility drugs. I did it about twice and then said IUI is pointless.
  • I'm sorry. Sad
