Cloth Diapering

Getting my NB stash together

Hey gals,

so I posted about a coworker selling me her new BG pockets for $10, she said they were snaps, but they are in fact Velcro, I am going to buy them anyways, she only has 15 so I will need to purchase more, I think I will get more BG's with snaps.

anyways, A few questions I have...I see they come with 2 inserts, a newborn and toddler, does anyone ever use both for extra protection? or should I buy other inserts for leaks and added protection? what kind of inserts would you reccomend? Also, what type of laundry detergent does everyone use?.....I want to get a diaper pail with a few washable liners, what liners do you like best and where did you get your pail....? and lastly....do you guys hang your CD's to dry or use a dryer?

  • Yes, they are the 4.0 OS pockets, I heard that they won't fit from newborn most times even though they say 7-35+ lbs. I might just suck it up and use sposies for the first few weeks so I dont have to buy a bunch of NB size as well.

Ok, So all my inserts will be fine to put in the dryer then, but the actual shell is to be hung to dry?

You can dry them in the dryer but they will last longer if you don't. They dry quickly if hung dry, even in the bathroom or wherever. The heat of the dryer makes them delaminate not to mention if it is aplix it can cause that to break down quicker.

  • I had the same questions about OS dipes. I bought 20 NB AIO diapers or $100 and I have some prefolds and fitteds in the NB size as well. I probably would have done all prefolds for the newborn but I got a GREAT deal on the AIO's. For detergent I have  used All Free and Clear and have some rockin green as well. Most diapers I own I bought used so I just washed them once myself and have them in storage until baby arrives. For our regular laundry I make my own detergent but it is not diaper safe so I am looking into another one that is diaper safe cause it saves SO much in the long run.

I think you'll want to invest in some sort of cloth for the NB stage.  If we had done sposies until OS fit, we'd still be in them and our baby is 7weeks. Only a few OS fit...and just barely.  Prefolds and covers are an inexpensive option for the NB stage

I agree with PP- If I were you, I would purchase some prefolds & covers. You can then use the NB prefolds to stuff pockets!

we used and liked osocozy unbleached size 1 prefolds and bummis super brites xs and thirsties xs covers. Thirsties aplix is terrible, but the cover works really well
