Anyone dealt with chickenpox yet?

I think DS has it, but he only has the red dots on his face.  They started a couple days ago and we thought he just had a few pimples, but they've gotten worse.  The only thing that makes me unsure is that they're nowhere else but his face.

He's been a bit run down too - a little more clingy and sleeping a lot more.  Anyone else dealt with this yet?

He's had all his scheduled vaccines up until this point too, but I can't remember if the chickenpox vaccine was one of them.

Re: Anyone dealt with chickenpox yet?

  • I believe chicken pox usually starts on the trunk of the body and spreads.

It is very hard to diagnose rashes.  Last fall I brought Audrey in because we believed she had chicken pox even though she had been vaccinated our Dr said that it looked suspicious but he could not confirm it.  She stayed home until the rash cleared.

Does the rash seen to have pus filled middles?  Does it itch/ bother him?

I think that they should have already gotten the chicken pox vaccination around the age of one. ( I could be wrong though)

  • We haven't dealt with chicken pox here yet. Your DS should have had the vaccination at his 12 month appointment if he is on schedule. That doesn't mean he's necessarily immune though. Some people still get chicken pox after the vaccination, but the symptoms should be less severe. If you suspect at all that he has chicken pox you should take him in to see his pedi. Poor kiddo. Hope he feels better soon.
  • P had chicken pox at 5 or 6 months. Most of them were on her trunk. She had a mild case....low grade fever and seemed relatively unbothered by it.

I hope your LO feels better!

  • I thought Gavin had chickenpox last year but it was hand foot and mouth. His blisters were on his face, arms, butt/groin, and legs. Doctor said it wasn't chicken pox since it wasn't on his trunk. GL and hope LO feels better soon! Try the pedi if you're not sure.

  • I called the pedi and they don't think it's chickenpox since he was vaccinated for it.  The nurse said to keep and eye on it and let them know if it gets worse.  One of the red spots did have a white middle to it like a pimple, but the others just looked like red bug bites.  He isn't scratching his face so I'll have to do a search for possible bugs in his room tonight.
