Is it just me?

I love DS to pieces, but I feel like he's 11.75 months going on Terrible Two already. Is it just my kid, or is it common to see more temper fits and random tantrums at this age? He was a booger all weekend, and so I had high hopes that today he would enjoy going grocery shopping like he usually does. No such luck. I probably looked like the world's most uncaring mom pushing a cart with a kid screaming his head off. I wanted to post a sign to my back that said, "He's just been fed. His diaper is fresh. He won't take his paci. He has only been sitting in this cart for 10 minutes. He's not cutting any teeth at the moment. Any other grand ideas? No? Thanks for playing."

Re: Is it just me?

  • Yep this is about the time they discover freedom. Dh and I joke all the time that we just got the older 2 to be able to handle restaurants and now DS3 is in the I don't want to sit still phase. 12-15 months has been the worse with my boys at trying to do anything with them. They started testing limits and not wanting to be confined. Frustrating. Oh and I've totally been the mom going through the grocery store or target with 1, 2 or all 3 crying or whining at me.

  • Haha. I just had to laugh at your sign. Too funny. Yes my DS goes through random fits and tantrums once in awhile although its never consecutively lasted for days unless he's sick or teething. I do think I'm getting to see a lot more of his personality lately though. They are just getting to an age where they want to express themselves so badly.
  • DH and I joke all the time that DS has hit the terrible twos a year early. He gets SO. MAD. when we take away the remote control, the power cord to my laptop, tell him "no, you can't hit the  keyboard" or put him to bed when he's been yawning and rubbing his eyes.
  • Yep, the frustration started at our house as soon as the baby gates went up! She hates being blocked. She also gets whiny when she's hungry or tired

  • DS also hates grocery shopping. He is upset that he can't get out of the cart. Last time I let him get down and told him he can walk if he holds my hand like a big boy. Obviously he took off so I went and grabbed his hand and tried to lead him back to the cart giving him another chance, but he flopped down on the floor hand started kicking and screaming. He cried the rest of the time. One lady in passing said, "Poor thing. Where's his bottle?" Like I couldn't hear her and like I hadn't already picked it up 10 times after he chucked it. He has a bad day, or week but then is great for twice as long. The bad times just seem to last longer.
  • It's not just you! DS was being so nasty today when we were at Target. Everytime I stopped the cart he started screaming and crying for no reason. I could hear people on other isles say "wow do you hear that baby crying?" I was "that parent" today. I was so embarrassed!
  • Kenna is definitely throwing fits already but she's way calmer than her brother so i dont even notice her fits as much. And dont worry about the kid screaming in the grocery store. We have all been there, or will be there. My 3 yr old has Aspergers and the grocery store is one of his triggers. he melts down as soon as we walk in and screams the whole way through but i have to grocery shop so he has to just sit and scream. ive learned to get in and get out in about 20 minutes or so but he still screams the whole time.

  • Rustan is constantly underfoot and cries/whines all the time.  I try to ignore it.
  • Kara has a short temper and gets pissed easily. Otherwise she's pretty happy, but when she gets mad, watch out.

However, my 3 year old is the one that I want to sell to the gypsies. She's 3 going on 13 with her attitude.  Oh and potty training? It's pretty much parent hell.

I'm sorry your 3 year old is giving you fits, but your post totally made me giggle out loud.

  • Oh gosh. We were totally there in Target the other day. So I took DD up to the front to let her run around a little while DH finished the shopping. DD started climbing all over this cart thing, and I seriously had my fingers less than an inch away from her, but the employee came over and was really rude about telling us to get off (I absolutely wasn't going to argue). But then when I picked DD up and pulled her head back through some bars the employee freaked out like I was about to drop her, or smash her head or something. I felt she was seriously judging me as a mom and it really pissed me off.
