DS will be 6 months this weekend. We started trying solids with him at 5 months. I've tried almost every Level 1 baby food and he hates them all. I've played with the consistency by mixing in formula. I try one for a few days, then switch to another for a few days. I've given him time off in between (like a week) just in case he wasn't ready. I've tried with a spoon, I've tried with my finger, by putting it on his fingers, by giving him a bowl with the food in it to "play" with, by putting some on his highchair tray to stick his hands in. Every time he gets the worst look on his face - it gets all scrunched up and horrified looking. He has even gagged a few times because of the taste! He always grabs at our food and drinks. He loves to play with his baby spoon (when there's no food on it!) and stick it in his mouth. He loves to stick anything and everything in his mouth, actually. All signs point to him being ready for this!
Anyhow, I'm beginning to get worried he won't like food! Getting him to drink formula (FF from the beginning) has been a bit of a challenge as well, mostly due to his reflux (which is now under control with meds). Is this common? I plan to bring it up next week at his 6 month Pedi appointment. My mom told me I should "ask my internet people" - so here I am! LOL. ![]()
Any tips for getting him to like solids?

Re: Won't eat solids!
He's still young so give him time. He'll get it eventually.
For what it's worth, DD always makes a face on the first bite of something and then she keeps going back for more and before we know it she's eaten the whole thing.
I agree. He is still young and with all the issues you guys had in the beginning with his reflux he just may not be ready. I don't think my kids got it at first. I stopped with Liam because he kept choking. I also started later with him than I did with Logan. He still gets all his nutrition from formula so it will be ok.?
I love your mom told you to ask your "internet friends". Hehehe!?
We have a few tricks that we just figured out. First I had heard of mixing the food with just a bit of water rather than formula. Yesterday we reclined the highchair just a bit and that helped a lot. Robbie actually opened his mouth and took bites. I have made my own baby food so that I know what is in it and it seems to be a lot less expensive. I also don't feel so bad if he only eats a little bit and I have to toss it. It is really easy to do. You could try that to see if he likes the flavors better. Robbie gagged on avacado I think due to the small chuncks. He really likes the squash, and sweet potato. We also try to feed him when he is not Super hungry. We may give him 4 oz of formula then try solids.
