So we're seriously considering hiring a nanny. We have someone in mind and we're meeting with her tonight. I guess I'm posting because I have no idea of what the norm is for nannys. Do you pay her sick days? How many vacation days? Should I encourage her to take vacation when we take ours? Does your nanny do housework? Bring her own lunch? This nanny would be bringing her 7 month old with her to watch my 5 month old. How does this all work? If you have a nanny please school me!
Re: Hiring a nanny questions..
I am answering based on what we used to do...
Sick days - gave her 3/year. Our nanny only ever used one day of sick time though.
Vacation - we gave her three weeks of paid vacation - two she got when we went on vacation, the other was whenever she scheduled her own vacation. She gave us a month's notice on her vacation time.
Housework - she tidied the kitchen - wiping down the counters, running d/w, sweeping floors. She occasionally did some of DS's laundry if needed. No other cleaning.
Lunch - she brought some of her own food but was also welcome to whatever we had.
Bringing her own child - we did not have this arrangement, but I would make sure you discuss sick days in this context. What will you do when her LO is sick and you don't want her bringing him/her over? What about when your LO is sick - I am assuming she will then not want to bring her LO over.
