Hey,
I mostly lurk, but I've seen your endorsements of PU/PD. We are getting ready to do it with our little girl, probably in about a month from now (we're working on swaddle and crib transition right now). She will be 6 months in two weeks.
I read the Solves All Your Problems chapter on PU/PD and the modifications for babies older babies. Any suggestions though? My biggest question is WHEN to pick up and WHEN to put down. Our little girl "fusses" a lot, but I wouldn't call it outright crying - probably b/c so far, we don't let her get that far, I just pick her up and feed her (breastfeeding) back to sleep. We breastfeed and/or rock to sleep. She takes a paci, but we only use it in association with sleep and it falls out during her sleep most times (and does not wake her up). We have tried "drowsy but awake" with her and it doesn't work. She doesn't have to be completely in deep sleep for us to put her down, but I can't just put her down drowsy. Do I wait for the all out cry to pick her up and then just hold her for a couple of minutes before putting her back down (even if she is still crying?) or do I hold her until the crying stops and put her back down? Or do I pick her up when she first starts her fussing?
Once she's back down in the bed, if she's not crying again, did you stay by her side with hand on your LO or did you leave the room and come back when the crying started again? Did you stay with her with a hand on her until she was in deep sleep?
Another challenge I have is taht she is in childcare during the day so we can't realistically ask her nanny to do the same thing b/c it's a nanny share and there are other babies to tend to. I'm planning to start it over a weekend and do it for all naps and night times but am worried she won't have really got it by Monday and will regress when she goes to her nanny's house and gets rocked to sleep.
Also, did your husband help? I know she says not to alternate who is doing it for a particular go-to-bed instance, but I was hoping I could do one and then DH could do the next wake up, etc.
Sorry so many questions - it's confusing! Advice is much appreciated! Thanks.
