Oh boy. First night without the pacifier...

We only had one pacifier left and we lost it tonight.  Nora didn't nap today and was up past her bedtime, so I thought it would be okay.  Not.  She's up and asking for it.  What should I do?

Re: Oh boy. First night without the pacifier...

  • tell her its all gone... and give her a book, animal...anything she can sleep with.

It'll be tough- the first night was Jake's hardest, he cried about 10min looking for it. But it was over in a few days...TOTALLY worth it!

    Good luck!

  • You just need to get through tonight and it will get easier each night. I promise! Stick to it!
  • I went in and rocked her until she fell back asleep.  When I put her back in bed, she asked for a bink again.  I told her they were all gone.  She wimpered a little bit, so I told her it would be okay.  She rolled over and (hopefully) went to sleep.  I sooo wish DH was home tonight!
  • Just say it "matter of a fact" tone... like there is NO choice. She'll understand and it'll work-- stick with it (if you truly want to ditch the bink). Once she gets over tonight it should be downhill. Our first night without it was the hardest.
  • its the hospital one isnt it? you want ours? ds never used it, i know that ds will is not ready to give his up and i and not ready either.

Yes, they were the Soothie ones.  I wasn't ready to get rid of them either (life savers from time to time!), but fate pushed us into this venture tonight.  Ugh.  I haven't heard any more from her, so she's probably good.  I may never get a nap out of her again, though.

  • You always sound like such a sweet mom.  Nora is a lucky girl :)
  • It'll be fine! But, I guess I'm just not understanding why you say fate pushed you into this? If you're not ready to be done with them, can't you just go buy some more?

*sniff, sniff*  Thank you!  That means a lot!

I should say I wasn't ready for the fight of getting rid of the bink.  Most of the time I wish we'd never started with them.  Nothing is easy when it comes to being a parent, is it?  LOL.
