I'm a week overdue and my midwife is planning a membrane sweep for me tuesday. I'm just wondering what your experience was like and also did it work for you. Another question is it did work for you, how many days later did you go into labor?
I know every one is different. I'm just wondering. Thank you ladies.
PS. I'm planning a waterbirth so I'm doing all I can to not have any interventions.
Re: Membrane Sweep Anyone?
I was facing an induction at 39 weeks so my MW swept me at 37.4 and 38.1. I lost some MP both times but had no other symptoms to speak of. I went into labor spontaneously at 39 weeks.
I was also started acupuncture and pumping at 37-ish weeks. I didn't have any contractions or signs of labor until my very last time pumping. I had my first contraction about 5 mins after turning the pump off and I had my daughter less than 12 hours later.
I will also say that I had given up being anxious about going into labor and had finally accepted that I'd be being induced in the morning and focused only on meeting my baby. I was totally at peace with that and totally calm. I can't help but think that that helped me go into labor naturally.
I had mine done on a Friday, 2 days before my EDD. My Dr said it was ok and I'd been dialated at 3 for one month and at 80% for 2 weeks.
My back hurt that night but I felt fine in the morning. I wore a big pad just in case of bleeding. Thank goodness I did - my water started leaking less than 24 hours from my sweep. Baby was born just 8 hours from my water break starting.
Worked for me and I'd do it again!
