Air conditioning - what do you do?

So, I hate keeping a closed door between me and DD overnight... it freaks me out.  But now that it's air conditioner weather and she's too big to be in a PNP in our room, I don't know that I have alternative.  She sleeps terribly when it's hot, so the AC is a godsend for her.  What do you do?

  • Aria's bedroom door is always closed at night. If she can see even a crack of light coming through there, she freaks out until you pick her up.

So, I put Aria in a cotton pajama set, in her room, and shut the door. She sleeps like a log almost every night. [except recently, when the teething monster has been visiting!]

  • I will say DD has been sleeping like a little rock tonight with her door closed and the AC on.  I just have this terrible habit of t urning the monitor off in my sleep and nto noticing, which is why we keep the doors open (well, until tonight!(.

  • Julian's door is always closed. Can you move the monitor further away so you don't turn it off in your sleep?
  • I can, it just makes me so nervous!  When she was really tiny, i accidentally turned the volume down and slept for 5 hours without hearing her (we had always slept with doors closed prior), so now I'm just paranoid about not having the doors open. I'm sure after a few nights, it won't bother me..... just being skiddish.

  • It just takes a little time to get used to.  But if she really had a problem, and your room is nearby, a closed door wouldn't stop you from hearing her.  It might stop you from hearing the little moans and things that she sleeps through, but it won't stop you from hearing her if she had a real problem.  It will take a little practice on your part, but if she's getting a better night's sleep, then you can live through it being a little harder for you, to give her what she needs.

All of this. I sleep with our monitor volume off (it's video, so I keep that on so I can click on the video feed if I need it), a fan on low, and DD's door closed. Kid is LOUD and if she needs up, we hear her. She can even wake me up chatting in the morning.

Thanks guys... the first night wasn't too bad!  She was up early (as she's been lately, oh well)... but then took a 2 hour nap in her crib with the door closed, which was amazing.  Thanks for the nice words, everyone... y'all are good moms!

We have to shut Nolan's door because if we don't the dog will go in and wake him up.  I was a nervous wreck at first, but we got a video monitor and an AngelCare movement monitor.  I still use the movement monitor for peace of mind, even though I know the SIDS risk is low (I don't even think it is SIDS at this point).  The movement monitor was relatively inexpensive (like $50) on Amazon.

I just saw this post...I should read everything before I respond.  What about putting the monitor on DH's side of the bed?
