LO is 8.5 months and Loves feeding himself cereal puffs and fruit with the mesh thing. I've read a little about BLW and would like to try it and cut back on the pures. What make me nervous is that even with the cereal puffs that dissolve, LO will occasionally appear to start to choke. He always gets it out, but I am nervous to give him foods other than pures. Is it common for babies to cough and almost appear that they're choking? And how small do you have to cut up food for them? It seems like I'd have to cut it smaller than he'd be able to pinch, even though his coordination is quite good. Sorry if these are really dumb questions!

Re: S/O BLW
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Yes, DD hates purees, so we have only done BLW. It is so nerve wracking until they get the hang of it. You have to watch them like a hawk while eating, no walking away from the highchair!
But it is also much easier because you can just give them selected foods you are eating, instead of separate food.
I do more of a combination between BLW and purees. My baby loves to play with food while she's eating. If you respect some elementary rules of BLW you should not be afraid of choking: just cut the food the appropriate size and be there and watch your baby. You should also try some different veggies and fruits and see what your baby likes. . I first find it hard to tell which solids were recommended for her and which to avoid, but I found this website https://goodmomming.com/ and it kind of solved my problem. It's my solids-bible.
