Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Allergy help!

I fed my daughter some gerber banana yogurt yesterday and she broke out in hives. I gave her Benadryl and 10 minutes later after nursing her she projectile vomited everywhere. Today I gave her Benadryl twice because her hives are still all over the place. I've never seen hives nor does anyone i know have an allergy to something. How long does this take to go away. What should I do to help my baby?! The hives are all over her back, arms, chest, face, and some on her legs. Any advice. I'm not giving her any more yogurt but is there anything to make these hives go away. Thanks ladies!

  • Go to the freaking doctors, now! Are you kidding me? You also can't give babies 2 doses of Benadryl if you aren't waiting till the next dose is allowed. I hope you waited. Now seriously, go to the doctors now.

I waited until the recommended time to give her the second dose. I also spoke with her pediatrician and they told me to give her Benadryl. She doesn't have trouble breathing and she isn't swollen anywhere. I'm taking her to the dr if it doesn't get better by tomorrow. I'm asking if anyone has experience with hives and knows how to help make it go away faster.

  • You just have to wait it out.  Keep her from getting too hot as heat/sweating can make hives worse.  Cool comfortable clothing. My DS2 had hives from yogurt at 6 months. By 9 months at his allergist appt, his scratch test came back clear for dairy so there's hope she'll outgrow it quickly.  GL!

Ok sorry! Thought you were one of those moms who post on here before calling the doc. Hope your LO gets better fast!
  • Aveeno makes a baby oatmeal bath, that might help sooth her if its itchy

How long did it take for the hives to go away? DD's got lighter this morning but they're still there when did your LO's hives go away?

  • When DS had an allergic reaction, he broke out in hives and his face and hands got puffy. The hives went away in about 18 hours, but the puffiness didn't totally go away till about 28 hours later.  We took him to the ER and he was given benydril there.
