Babies: 3 - 6 Months

nap timing/duration for 4 month

I'm sure there's been a post about this but I can't find it.

What does your 4 month nap schedule look like, where do they sleep and for how long? DD stinks at naps and I am just curious what others are doing.
Thanks!

Re: nap timing/duration for 4 month

  • At 4 months there should be no schedule. Babies are ever moving and changing creatures. They set their own schedules based off their needs. Our son has a morning nap, an afternoon nap, and an evening nap then sleeps for 12 hours. We don't tell him when to nap, he chooses when he's sleepy. Same for when he's hungry.

That's what I meant. I know you can't put them on a schedule per se. Just wondering when other LOs nap.

  • She takes three naps a day for about 2 hours each. Morning, noon and evening. She is asleep by 7:30 each night and wakes up at around 5 am. She sleeps either in her crib or the swing.

  • Dd is 5 months old but 4 months adjusted, which I read is what counts when it comes to sleep. She takes one shorter nap about an hour after she wakes up (40-60 min), then a longer one early afternoon (1-3 hours), and then either 1 or 2 more in the later afternoon for 40 min-1.5hrs, depending. She seems to be ready for bed these days around 7:30pm. I have a baby carrier that I use for all her naps. She sleeps great in it, but it's no longer ideal. I know I need to  get her in her crib, but it's not a battle I have felt like embracing yet since I know there will be a lot of screaming and sleepless days. She also starts daycare in a few weeks, so part of me just feels like it will get worked out there since that will be a hard transition anyway.

  • My poor kid has a very loud big brother, so he's not always the best napper.  On good days (every other day maybe?), he wakes up at 6:30 with the rest of us, eats and goes back to sleep until 8.  Then back to sleep around 11:00-2:00 and again around 4:00-5:00.  Again from about 6:30 to morning, waking to eat and coo every 3 hrs or so.  He sleeps in his swing, on me, on the couch (with me near), or in our bed (bedshares at night.)  I'm on a mission this coming week to get naps in the crib!

  • At 4 months my DDs naps were all over the board. She was predictable in that she would sleep in the morning, afternoon and early evening and then be ready for bed at 8 ish, but everything else was a crap shoot. Some naps were 15 minutes, some 2 hours.

  • DS is a bad mapper. He currently naps about 4 times a day for exactly 30 minutes each time.

DS naps in his crib. He use to take 2 long naps (2-3 hours) when he napped in his swing, but now he takes three shorter ones. He wakes up around 6:30-7, naps at 9, 12, and sometime between 3 and 4. Each nap is around 40 min to an hour. Then he goes to bed at 7 and sleeps 12 hours most nights. Sometimes he wakes up at 4:30 and then goes right back to sleep after eating.

  • DD wakes between 7 and 8 a.m. and is only up for 60-90 minutes max, before going down for nap #1 in her crib, which is normally 2 hours. (She wakes at the 45-minute mark now thanks to the 4-month wakeful but normally goes back down for another hour if i go give her the pacifier) She takes a 20-minute catnap between 12-1 in her carseat, stroller or wherever we are and then another 2 hour nap in her crib from 3-5.

*go ahead and add an "-ish" to the end of all of those times because of course every day can vary a little.

  • Although I don't enfore my LO's schedule - he seems to be on one somewhat. He will take a 1 hr. nap about an hr. after waking, around noon he will take a 1-2 hr nap. and finally he will take his long nap about 3-4 hrs. between 3-4 pm. He usually goes to bed around 7:30 for the evening as well.
