Parenting after a Loss

Lets talk Ferber

What books did you read? I know there has been lots of post about sleep training and success stories. Gives me lots of hope. Jackson tossed and turned last night for an hour in his bed and then I brought him in our bed. He passed out 3 minutes later. Literally. I then put him back in his crib. He woke up to eat around 2, then work up at 5. I brought him in bed while I pumped. He didn't want to eat. I then had to rock him to sleep and he was back up at 6. He fell asleep around 7 woke up at 9 and didn't fall back asleep til 11.

I didn't read any books I've just researched different methods online. I just don't have it in me to do a full on Ferber so I've combined it with the other method of picking them up when they cry, calming them and then putting them right back down [i forget the exact name of this method]

Here's how my night went: started around 7. nursed DS until he was almost fully asleep. Put him down. He cried. I waited 3 minutes. Went back, nursed a minute or 2 more. Put him back down almost fully asleep. He let out 1 cry and then slept until 11. Nurses him when he woke up. Then put him back down no problem. He woke up again at 5 this morning. Nursed him. I put him back down awake. He cried. I picked him up, soothed him for a minute then put him down awake again. He put himself back to sleep and slept until 7:30.

Overall, I'm happy with what I'm doing. It's not full blown CIO which I like and DS seems to be sleeping better and self soothing more.

This definitely sounds like something I can do. Hearing him cry is so hard.

  • I got the Ferber Method book.

Hearing DD cry hard makes me physically sick, but I decided that I am doing her a HUGE disservice by not helping teach her how to be a good sleeper (I made this decision 3 nights ago haha).  I decided that my discomfort with her crying doesn't outweigh the benefit of her learning to sleep.

The few times we have tried the Ferber method it works like a charm after the first night.  I was super inconsistent due to my discomfort with her crying hard, so I would pull her into bed some nights, rock her some nights, sit in her room some nights.  I am seriously sticking to my guns this time.

She is currently sleeping in her crib after putting herself to sleep for the first time ever with me home (she does fine at daycare).  I checked on her at 5 minutes of scream crying and 2 minutes later she flopped over and fell asleep.
