Baby Names

Halle? Hallie?

We like the name Hallie. It's definitely our top three but we don't know how we should spell it.

Halle
Hallie
Hally

People have commented that hallie sounds like a nickname. What would it be short for?

Any help would be wonderful. :

Re: Halle? Hallie?

  • Halle, love as a stand alone name.

  • I think Hallie sounds like a NN, but Halle looks stand-alone

  • Just use Hallie.  I think people get carried away with the idea that you can't use nicknames as first names.  In theory, I totally get that, but when you have to come out with a weird full name just to justify the nickname you like, you are being ridiculous.

Also, Hallie is how 99% of people will spell it.  I think that Halle is setting up your daughter for a lot of correcting.

BTW, I actually love Hallie!  :)

  • Oh wow. I love that you knew that. I'm such a dork and love random facts like this.
  • Countrymice06 that's so funny that you said that. That was our thoughts exactly. I am afraid Halle will be pronounced wrong. Thank you for your advice : it was very helpful
  • Halle is like Holly to me not Hallie. and I really dislike the spelling Hally.

Hallie is cute though and could be short for Halcyon (sort of out there for most).

Happy to help!  I love it!  :)

  • I prefer just Hallie. I can't think of anything that it would be short for??

  • It sounds like a stand alone name to me.  I think the clearest spelling (least likely to be mispronounced) is Hallie.

    This.
  • I always thought that Halle looked wrong. If it weren't for Halle Berry I think I wouldn't pronounce it correctly. I say go with Hallie but I also have a friend named Hally and I like that too.

  • Also, are you going for Hay.Lee or Hal.ee?

Edit: ignore that. Hal.ee. The spelling Hallie is best.
  • Definitely Halle. It's a beautiful stand alone name that will age well. Hallie is a NN to me and I'm not fond of the Y on Hally.

  • DD's name is Halle....we don't have too many people screw up her name, but when they do, they call her hay-lee.  The hallie spelling was too cutesie for our liking!  Halle is such a classic, beautiful name!  It was our top choice from day 1!  :)
