Running With Baby!!!

Ive read conflicting things online about jogging with baby, I saw the BOB adapters but then I hear you shouldnt run still with those until 6 months, but I dont see why you can't?

Im looking for an adapter for my jogger from my dad but its an older jogger from when my youngest brother was little (around 2001) by Dreamer Designs.... so im not sure if it is even compatible with an adapter I cant find anything online.

My daughter has such good neck support and back strength she can sit up with balance support and it reclines alot im wondering if I can get a body support cushion for her in the jogger I'm gonna ask my pediatrician on monday but I didnt know if youve heard anything about that?

She is 4 months today I dont run fast probably a 12/min mile honestly Id just like to get back out there and its too hot to run with her when my husband gets home from work, but mornings would be great....

Re: Running With Baby!!!

  • I don't think you should run with the infant seat on the BOB at all.  It is not very stable and could tip.  As for putting the baby in the actual stroller, I know some people who have done it around 4 months, but I never felt comfortable doing that.  I don't think there are any "official" stroller support cushions or anything like that, but others use blankets, etc.  I would definitely ask the pediatrician about it though.  12/min mile isn't really too much faster than walking, so the doctor might say it's fine.

  • I ran with the kids in the BOB using the car seat adapter. The car seat still rests on the stroller seat so it really doesn't raise the center of gravity or make it more unstable. I think the main reason BOB says not to do it is for liability - they likely haven't tested the stroller while running with the adapter.

I would NOT run with a 4 month old directly in the seat no matter how strong you think her neck is. The jarring is bad for their developing neck and back muscles and to me it just isn't worth the risk. So if you can't find an adapter to work with your stroller I would recommend you hold off on running with her until she is closer to 8-9 months.

  • I ran with DS in the care seat adaptor on my BOB when he was 3 weeks old. I am a serious runner and the pedi cleared it as long as I stayed on smooth paths. I ran on our bike tails throughout the city and never had any issue. No big turns or bumps and he was fine. He probably got more jarred in the car.

Our Mountain Buggy Terrain says it is usable for newborns and we bought the adapter for the car seat. We plan on trying it out with her around 6 weeks old.
  • I started running with DD using the BOB car seat adapter at 8 weeks. I was running on paved roads, and moving super slow anyway. She probably got bumped around more on a normal car ride.

I switched her to the main stroller seat around 8-9 months once she was getting too big for the infant car seat.

She still loves being in the jogging stroller 4.5 years later.

  • You aren't supposed to run with the carseat because of the risk of tipping, and you aren't supposed to run with the baby not in the carseat until after 6 months because every little bump in the road jostles their little brain around and that's no good. Just wait.I know it's hard, but this is your kid's brain. It may seem like LO has great head control, but in a few months you'll realize how much stronger in comparison a 6 month old (or older) is compared to a 4 month old.

Also, the BOB has a super smooth ride but I bet an older stroller (or really almost any other stroller) will not be as smooth, so I'd be cautious. I have a Phil and Ted's too and DD2 jostles around a lot more, even when we're walking with the car seat adapter.
