Bad habits for sleep?

Hi Ladies,

My son is 5 months old and just started being able to self-soothe and sleep through the night.  During the week he wakes up between 5:15 and 6AM which is fine because I am already up for work and need to nurse him before I go.  On the weekends though when he wakes up this early I usually bring him back into bed with me, nurse him, and let him sleep with me for a few more hours.  I just wanted to get some opinions as to if you think this is going to hinder his new sleep routine we have established now or not.  I figured since it is only on the weekends he won't get used to it and expect it to happen during the week, and since I'm not doing it any earlier than when he usually wakes up during the night I didn't think it would hurt. What do you all think?  The last thing I want to do is mess up his sleeping through the night obviously, but I LOVE those times on the weekends that we get to snuggle up together!

I don't know what the other ladies will say, but my mom did this with me and my three siblings and never had any problems. I bring my baby into bed with me at 4am, which is her first wake up. I'm trying to break this habit (which I think is more MY habit than the baby's habit) now, but am not opposed to bringing the baby in bed for an early morning feeding later on.

I wish DS would go back down on weekends after his morning meal...but everyday is pretty much the same...to bed between 6:30 & 7:30pm and up between 5:30 & 6:30am. I'm not complaining though...he STTN!

  • Its fine. I do this with my DD sometimes and it hasn't been a problem. Enjoy the snuggles while it lasts.

  • My LO still sleeps in the bed with me. He sleeps through the night, unswaddled and can self soothe. He naps in a pack n play at daycare. I plan on transitioning him to his crib soon but honestly, they're still so young. I don't think you're spoiling him or ruining him. If he was 2 maybe but 5 mos? I think you're ok.
