Teething Monsters!

For the last couple days I've been a wreck with a fussy baby who is waking up at night moaning and hard to console. At first I thought she was sick because she had a high fever of 102.8 but besides the fever and random crying outbursts, she was her usual self. She wasn't clingy, could play for a while by herself, and was eating like normal. Now her fever is gone but she's still waking up at night crying. I'm starting to think its the molars. Her first one is coming up on the bottom.

So moms, tell me about your experience with molars if your baby has had them break through. How did they behave? What did you give them to comfort them? Any other suggestions on how to get through this? Thanks!

Every single tooth has been hell for Ian!  Molars were no exception and maybe a little worse than the others.  He does get a little clingy when teething, still eats ok, is pretty irritable, but does wake in the middle of the night(which is not normal for him).  The only thing that gives him any relief is ibuprofen.  With the molars it seemed like I was having to dose him every time possible.  Which ended up being a little hard on his tummy, because they took soooooo long to come through (and he teeths in pairs, so the top 2 came through and the bottom 2 immediately started their way through).  Because it started messing with his tummy, I was giving him tylenol during the day and saving the ibuprofen for bed time.  Also, I'd rub his gums really good with orajel before bed time.  That seemed to give him a little bit of temporary relief.  I hope they come through quickly for her and she doesn't have to deal with the pain for too long.

LO was pretty upset with his first 2 teeth, but didn't make a fuss until the molars came. All 4 first molars were pretty aweful for him. We just did a lot of snuggling and tylonol at bedtime

Madison was super irritable during the day and waking up screaming at night. It was hell! We just gave her Motrin and let her watch a lot of barney during the day bc that calmer her and makes her happy.

DS is up at 4:30 daily now.  He cut one on the bottom and has three more coming in.  He is snotty, clingy and whining constantly.  He has diapers that I cannot even believe.  We had a dinner date and when I got to the car I realized I had poop up my arm and it was all the way up his back, in his hair and under his armpits.  It took me about 15 minutes to fully strip him and clean up in the parking lot of Panera.

On the upside, I learned about a new miracle bottom cream.  It's called Bag Balm and it's sold with the make up remover.  It's for cow udders, but is totally helping his raw bottom (it was swollen it was so bad) combat the acidic teething poops.

2chatter, OMG, yes the poop!!!  The smell...ugh!  I can always tell when he's teething from the smell alone!  I've never heard of "Bag Balm" but have heard/used Utter Cream myself.  I may have to try some for Ian.  Thanks for the tip.

Landon is in this boat right now.  He has two molars coming in and two more bottom teeth coming in at once.  The molars are taking their sweet time, too.  I have been giving him Mortrin, but it doesn't stop him from waking up at night and sleeping poorly for naps.  We have been doing alot of outside play since that distracts him.  It is awful and can't wait for a break for both him and myself!

All of this sounds exactly like Natalie! But I've heard back and forth information about the fever--has anyone's LO had a fever while teething?

Only with her molars, but DD did. It was low grade, though. 100 or under.

Nat's fever was higher than that, but I just remembered that she got shots a week ago so that could have been it, too.

DD is working on her molars and they're killing me. She teethed really well with all the rest of them and has all 8 of her front teeth but she's acting just like everyone else's LOs. Glad to know its just teeth and so will end b

Overall I would have to say that Reese isn't that bad of a teether. Now, with that being said, the last few weeks have been rough. But, he is cutting four molars and all four incisors at once. Because it is all happening at once I am not sure which ones are to blame. He has been SUPER clingy, irritable, has had a low grade fever and loose poopy. He is still eating just not as much. As far as sleep it is hit and miss. He has woken up during the night a few times but mainly I have just noticed him being more restless than anything. Advil seems to help more than Tylenol when we are dealing with teething pain. At night after his last cup we give Advil, teething tablets, and rub his gums with night-time Orajel. When I took him to the dentist a few weeks ago for his first check-up she said that if he ever has a fever over 100 that is isn't from teething and that we need to check for ear infection, ect. She also said that if he has diarrhea often enough to make him dehydrated that that is not from teething either and is most likely a stomach bug or something viral. Hope your sweet girl gets to feeling better soon!
