Going to CHOP tomorrow

Matthew fell yesterday and twisted his ankle. It immediately started swelling up and he couldn't put pressure on it.  I took him to the ER where we were told it was sprained.  Today we got a call from the doc saying they reviewed it and they think it is broken...near a growth plate.  He has an air cast on right now.

To add insult to injury (literally) my mother doesn't believe me.  She thinks he'd be in more pain.  She and I got into an argument as a result where I got hung up upon because "When Josh broke his ankle he was in so much pain he had to have a shot to help." This would be Matthew's 4th broken bone...he cried for 2 of them.  Remember, mother, that's what the sensory issues do for him.

Re: Going to CHOP tomorrow

  • Which scares the hell out of me!  This will be his 4th broken bone!  He's now starting to complain about pain.  His foot is so swollen!  I tend to worry that something might happen to them but man!... It's been crazy here!  Jon with his eye and head and now Matthew with his foot.  The last thing we need is a break...

You so deserve an uneventful summer and perhaps a glass of chilled chardonnay

    Yeah, you really do, M!
I'm so sorry. :( That really does add insult to injury.

A is the opposite; SO sensitive to pain and discomfort that he's kind of "little boy who cried wolf" and it can be hard to know when something is serious. But I can definitely see how the opposite extreme could be dangerous. :(

  • Interesting. That actually would make a lot of sense for A. His dramatic reactions are often when he trips/stumbles/walks into something or when his rough-and-tumble twin brother bumps into him.
