I scrolled back and can't find a post bout his, though I'm sure it's been asked a million times...
We had been using a Vicks humidifier as a white noise machine in my 2 yo daughters room- it is loud and really drowns out the household noises. Sadly, it's on it's last legs. I bought a new humidifier for her, because frankly that one wasn't great for its intended use, but now I really desperately need some type of white noise machine.
Any recs? My main concern is just drowning out the household noises- we live in a townhouse and you can literally hear our neighbors go up and down their steps!
TIA! (sorry for the typos, I can't edit fom my pad for some reason!)
Re: White noise machine...
we've had this one for almost 2 years now.

i love that it's not on a timer and LO loves the projector too (they're separate buttons so you could use it just as a white noise machine).
Honestly - we have this one:

bought it at bed bath and beyond for $20 (seen here at target - I bet its on amazon) and its awesome. We bought THIS specific model when she was an infant because she liked the true white noise - like the oven fan white noise - it has a button for that - now she's in love with the water sound (button two on the sleep sheep) and it has a button for that (it stays on and plugged in) - I think it has a 40 min timer too - but we just leave it on 24/7
We've had it running 24/7 (hell even when we were in hawaii and not even home!) for four months and have had zero issues..
We have the Graco Sweet Slumber sound machine. I love it. It plays a bunch of different nature sounds, womb sounds and 2 different white noise sounds. It also has a bunch of lullabies which we used when DS was going through his bedtime bath and nurse routine, then when we put him down we switched to ocean sounds. Plus it has a built in nightlight, which you can use or not use.
It's also really small and portable for traveling (takes batteries or you can plug it in), and has an mp3 cord to attach the ipod. I got ours at BRU but I've seen them cheaper at Walmart and Target (around $25 I believe). I highly recommend.
I have this one as well, it works really well I have one in the baby's room and one in my room. I like that stays on constantly and that it has either a battery or plug in option.

We have this one too and are happy with it. We haven't used the projector but I heard the projector part wears out easily. If you only need it for the sound it isn't a big deal though.

We did this too! And one less new baby thing to buy, that won't be used after the baby is older.
