I can't stand when I see men/boys in general cross their legs like a woman. It looks so wrong! Especially grown men. I wonder if they actually have something between their legs that would even allow them to do that if you know what I mean. I just looks SO wrong!

    uh.

    lol, I missed this one.

I remember reading a workplace etiquette article that specifically said for men to sit with their knees close together or crossed at the knee. Do not sit with your knees spread or your foot on your knee.

Interesting! I mean full on crossing their legs with one knee on top of the other. I don't know why it's always bugged me. I'd rather have them sit with their foot on their knee than literally cross legged.

I can't stand when people say someone else is taking advantage of the system. The system exists for a reason. If you qualify for the system, you get the system. That in itself is 'taking advantage'. It's there, if you take it. If you don't take it, it's still there. For the next guy.

I think we're talking about two different connotations of "taking advantage."  In what you mean, you qualify, so you claim what's yours per the rules.  I know what I mean when I say "taking advantage," it's more like "taking the system for a ride."  The person has bent the truth to fit the rules or found loopholes to exploit.  It's using the system for a purpose it's not intended for.  Maybe you say that's fair, because they figured out how to use it, but I think it's unfair and lacking respect for those for whom the assistance was created.

Like if you drive a disabled parent around, so have a handicap sticker, but you go ahead and park in handicap spots when you're not driving her, because you can.  That's taking the system for a ride and in my not-very-precise terminology, I'd call it "taking advantage."

If it covers your a'ss, it's pants. This includes leggings, yoga pants, etc. I'm not putting on jeans and sweater to go buy bananas. Eff that. I'll wear what I've got on. If that means no bra, throw on a hoodie to cover up your nipples.
If I can see your panties, it's not pants. I've seen too many people wearing leggings as pants that are see-through. I don't need to be able to tell the color of your panties if I'm standing in line behind you in a store.

This is an utterly bizarre complaint to me. I cannot fathom giving two shiits about how someone else crosses their legs, or assuming something about them because of it.

I can agree with you on the bolded however it's not really a complaint more of an opinion. Will I judge the type of person they are based on how they sit? No but I find it weird that a man would sit this way. That is my own personal opinion. I don't go around looking for men who sit this way and then go home and ponder about the situation. I see it, I find it weird, I move on.

LL commented right after my post so I'm assuming this is directed "toward" that in the fact that I said "taking advantage of the system." I see her side but I'm with you Hyaline. You said it perfectly! The person driving that truck obviously found a loophole and in turn is taking advantage of that fact. Much like the guy who can't work because he has back problems and is on disability but he's putting on a new roof!

I love pictures of people nursing their babies.
Now I know who will want to see my fancy nursing photos. ;] knew I could count on Squeegy. I like nursing photos too, but I understand why some people don't. I'm sad I don't have any good ones, so im getting some since a photographer is coming to a BFing group playdate. I spend a lot of time giving him solids and have tons of photos, and so much time playing and have tons of photos. I spend so much of my time nursing but don't have any...but I will. And there will be very little boob and no nip involved.

I would love to see them.  I have a ton of selfie ones, but we were recently out for a hike in the woods and I made DH take some nicer ones.  My mom always regretted never having any pictures of her nursing her kids so I didn't want to have that same regret.  I honestly would never post my pics on the internet because of my job and to me those photos are private even though I do NIP without a cover sometimes.

I agree with you here--I think there are some pictures that should be private.  I think posting them online is tacky.  How special and personal of a bonding experience can it be if you're sharing it with a bunch of online strangers?  I think sex is a beautiful, personal, bonding thing with my DH.  I wouldn't post pictures of that on the internet either.  There are some things I wish people could keep private and enjoy with those they love, not everyone in cyberspace.

I'M REALLY LEAVING THIS PORTION OF THE CONVERSATION NOW.

You know I like you, LL, but this kind of thing gets under my skin.  I posted what I thought was a reasonable point in the spirit of engaging you in a conversation that you sorta started (or at least pulled out a tangent from another convo).

I get that maybe you were directing this at someone else, but I still feel kinda like I just got yelled at so you could get the last word in, and was then told the conversation was over with no further explanation.  It feels kinda disrespectful.  I get that this stuff is personal for you and hits a nerve, but I think you know I'm not trying to push your buttons, so maybe I deserve a little consideration on that point?

I think this is in reference to BFing pictures on IG. Correct me if im wrong. Do you also get annoyed when people post pictures wearing low cut shirts? Because a boob is a boob. I'm not ballsy enough to post BFing pictures on line, but when I nurse, you can't see boob. DD head is bigger than my boobs! Maybe that should be my FFFC???

LL I would never direct a comment of disability/back pain at anyone. I was actually thinking of a specific person I know IRL. I totally realize that back pain is a disability. My dad has horrible back problems from an accident on the job. I never said that people with back "pain" shouldn't get disability. I merely said this "Much like the guy who can't work because he has back problems and is on disability but he's putting on a new roof." I'm sorry but if you have back problems that prove you should be on disability you shouldn't be putting on a new roof ::example:: End.of.story!

If there is infidelity in your marriage, I think you have to look at what happened and why to make him/her step out and take responsibility for that. Is it your fault that he cheated/texted/had a ONS? No. But at some point, communication or connection or intimacy broke down and that led to the infidelity.
I think it's entirely possible to rebuild ANY marriage if you are both willing to try and work at it. But it takes finding out where the disconnect was and rebuilding it every single day or it'll never work.

Disability isn't like going down and signing up for WIC. It's involved, it's difficult, and it's time consuming and confusing. If they are on disability, it's for a well documented reason.

Poke, I can see how your specific example would grind your gears. But being on disability doesn't mean you can't function, it just means you have been deemed unable to work enough hours to care for yourself.

It took 2 years for my Dad to get disability.  It's a process I hope to never have to go through again because of all the stress it caused my parents.  Bleh.  I'm sure it can be done, but by and large I would guess it's much more difficult getting on disability than on state assistance.

And the tomatoes need to be really truly ripe. Not chemically ripened like so many of the crappy tomatoes in most grocery stores. Tomatoes with flavor, like you can taste the sun that ripened them. How's that for foodporn my friends? Yum.

And I also understand this LL! Yes I was using a specific example that completely grinds my gears. My BIL is another one but that's a whole other topic! This specific person can care for his himself and his family. I realize the system can't catch every scumbag out there that uses the system however I become super stabby when I see those that do, realize they do it and laugh it off like "someone" owes them ya know? I also feel bad for those who truly deserve it but can't get it for some reason. We have these programs in place to help those people who need it most. It's unfortunate that there can't be something out there to help and NOT have someone take advantage of it based on their own self-indulged "need."

Yes, there are people on disability that probably CAN sustain themselves. At one point, they couldn't. If you know for a fact they can, than they should be reported for fraud.

People do slip through the cracks, and its people like that who make it that much harder for people who actually NEED the services.

But honestly, getting disability is insanely hard, INSANE.

This! I have said it before and I will say it again. Instead of biitching to us that you know someone that for sure doesn't qualify for the assistance they are getting, do something about it ffs.

That's the beauty of it, it can be both!

My dad is allowed to work X amount of hours for X amount of dollars when he feels well enough and can still collect disability...he is probably a solid year a way from that.

I thought that was pretty interesting, actually. His disability check is by no means enough to sustain a normal life in the northeast, I can tell you that much.

This is my grandfather. He hurt his back and knees in an accident and was no longer able to do his job in the manner needed. He got on disability and when he was healed enough, went back to work on an alternate work schedule so he could work at his own pace. The AWS by no means pays enough for him to sustain a life in NJ so he remains on disability - within the constraints provided.

I thought that was pretty interesting, actually. His disability check is by no means enough to sustain a normal life in the northeast, I can tell you that much.

Yes. My dad has been on disability for almost my whole life (he broke his back, and has multiple sclerosis, and complications) and his disability income is less than $10k a year.

Disability means you are unable to work for a year or more. Stage 4 cancer = disability. Stroke=disability. Not that you can't function in society. It just means you can't work at the job or a similar task to what you were doing prior to the injury.

My mother is disabled and they actually stalked her at the grocery store and took pictures of her pushing her grocery cart. She has had back surgery twice and while she can function, she can't do what her job requires her to do.

Back surgeries are no joke. My dad applied for disablity and was initially denied. He's a nurse but they said he could do a sitting down nursing job. WTF kind of nurse sits at a desk?

I had someone get her Medicare taken away because she was an amputee and they said she could be a greeter at Walmart.

That's nuts! On both accounts. Besides, greeters at Walmart have to stand too!

So late. We had an epic walk.

re: NIPing and pics. I think hating on the normalize it hash tag is lame. If you don't like the pics, don't click on the tag. I think the point is more about supporting other NIPing moms. Hash tags pull together like minded people. I agree it might not change people's mind but that's not always the point. I do agree though that the best way to normalize it though is just to do it without fanfare.

I also think the term hero is overused. I wouldn't go so far as to say Angelina is a hero, but I think using her celebrity to bring to light a sensitive topic is admirable and I respect her for it. Perhaps if we have this dialogue, more women will be more comfortable considering this option and eventually more insurance companies will cover things like a preventative mastectomies.
