The keyfit caddy can only be used as long as you are using your infant bucket seat, so for many people that means 8-12 months before changing to convertible seat. It's super light weight, folds up easily and stores fairly flat so that trunk space is not compromised. It's great for quick errands and in the city. We used ours for about 10 months, but since then it's been sitting in my closet.
The travel system can be used past the toddler stage but the biggest concerns are bulk, weight, handling and the amount of cargo space needed for storage.
I suggest you try out a fully loaded travel system before you commit to buying one, including folding it down and picking it up.
The Cortina travel systems can be bought for about the same price as buying the caddy and the keyfit 30 at MSRP separately, so unfortunately the caddy becomes relatively expensive.
We were going to get the caddy, but ended up getting the Liteway Plus Stroller instead. It feels lighter/smaller than the travel system, but can still be used longer than the caddy. No experience yet just using it as a stroller though.
I've never understood the hatred of the Cortina on here. Try it out and see how you feel about it in comparison with other strollers yourself. I bought mine with my first 3 years ago and have loved it with both my kids. Is it my only stroller? No, I have an umbrella stroller, and now I also have a double, but the Cortina is fine. I still use it a few times a week. I loved my Chicco travel system.

Because it is a basic, cheap plastic travel system. You can get a better stroller that will last longer and be easier to use and transport for a little more $$$.
Also, the new Liteway is a great option. It is lightweight, reclines and accepts the infant car seat.
Because the Cortina, folded up, took up half the trunk and half the back seat of our station wagon. It is gigantic and awkward to handle. This meant very little space for other things in the car, or another passenger, if we needed it.
I would get the Keyfit Caddy for quick trips in and out of the car, or just get a better stroller altogether. Lots of different brands have a carseat adapter that will take different brands of carseats. I wish I had known that from the beginning.

I have the travel system. M was born in November. We had a long winter here so I didn't get to take her out much when she was really small. We used the car seat in the stroller a few times, but started using just the stroller when M was about 5 months. I use it daily now and have no complaints. It's not the most sophisticated stroller, but it works for now. We have a convertible car seat, but are still using the infant one.
Check out the Chicco Liteway Plus. It is an light weight umbrella stroller that also works like the caddy. The seat folds down and the carseat snaps right into it.

This. My SIL had the system hated the stroller. She ended up picking up a cheapie Cosco umbrella stroller while she was out.
Do the caddy...I love our snap n go G luxe, especially now as an option when both me DH are out together.
If you want a stroller the Valco Snap City Mini will work with your car seat. Better option in the long haul.

This is what we have done as well
