Child Birth Classes...??

Im 32 weeks today, i havent taken any child birth classes and am afraid it may be to late for them, i really feel as if i need to take one. I want to be well prepared and have it run smooth. This Is my first child, so like most and all women im quite stressed and nervous about the decisions i need to make for labor. I want to know what to do and when to do it.  Any Ideas.     Thank You..

Re: Child Birth Classes...??

  • I'm a FTM and I didn't have a lot of choices when it came to scheduling classes. I am 32 weeks and my first birthing class doesn't start until June 12th. I actually prefer the times closer to my EDD because I won't be worried about forgetting things when the time comes.

  • IMO you should take a childbirth class whenever you can, even if it's later.  I am actually NOT stressed or nervous about labor and laboring decisions because the classes I've taken have prepared me so well.  In fact I'm kind of looking forward to the experience.  Taking a class will help prepare you mentally and show you how to prepare physically for labor.  Which is a good tool to have, even if you plan to get an epi and even have a c-section.

I would suggest taking a class.  The more knowledge and preparation you have, the easier it will be for you to make decisions and feel more comfortable with them.  Ask your doctor for recommendations on classes.  My doctor suggested taking one through the hospital you are delivering at.  We just started 2 weeks ago in a 6 week program covering childbirth, infant care, and breast feeding.  They also are giving us a tour of the LDRs, postpartum rooms, and pre-registering with the hospital.
  • I'm a FTM and I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to childbirth and baby care.  That being said, I'm so glad DH and I took the child birth classes offered by the hospital we will be delivering in.  I learned s much and it was really nice to have DH there and have set aside time for us to talk about what we need from each other during labor and delivery.  Also, I realized there is a lot I didn't know.  I'm also grateful to have been able to get a tour of L&D.  I just feel much more prepared now and so does DH.  I highly suggest you take the classes.
